Appears hazy yellow with a good white frothy head. Aroma is gentle, light malty and yeasty, many fruits notes, some citric grapefruit and lemon. Taste is light sour, perfectly balanced with the light malts sweetness, making it a very pleasant beer. Lively carbonation and oily texture contributes to a light to medium body. Complex but soft, a good job!

With the 99 score I was expecting more. I just had a beer called Kalinda that absolutely smashes this beer. I poppped open the bottle and sniffed the vapors and got an unmistakeable Dill Pickle vinegar. Ok let’s move past that. This is a sour oak beer. This is a good beer and it really has a unique personality. Rich funk.....vineous. Wheat comes through in the body and flavor. Very dry. To me the only thing that holds this beer back is the Dill or Vinegar personality. It is very unique but I feel it needs to be paired with food to take it to another level. It does leave me with the impression that it is rich and exotic.

Genius beer!!! Pours out a pale gold with a brightness throughout and a thick white head with a light cloudiness in the body. The nose is insanely beautiful with a bretty and sour emphasis. Strong hay and straw with light lemony citrus esters and freshly cut tropical fruit. A splash of tropical fruits and freshly juiced citrus fruits then a mild sourness and acetic barrel notes come through. The barrels are overblown on the palate but lend the most incredible and ingenious flavour to the taste. Sweet and fruity with citrus fruits, light bready and candy like malts come through but the sourness and barrel notes are simply sublime. Simply sublime!!

Pours slightly hazy golden with a off-white head. Leaving a fair lacing. Nose of caramel, vanilla and citrus. Sweet flavor with citrus, orange and caramel. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. Ends up more dry and bitter.

750ml bottle (Bierkompass.de)
Lovely dry woody aroma, nicely crisp and dry, a little bit sharp and zesty. Nice hazy orange, but can be poured clearish if you want the first pours to be clear. Anna prefered the sharpness of her clearer glass, I preferred the mellowness of the yeastier one, the sharpness is just a little too tart. I have a yeastier taste, obviously, which perhaps is just a bit too dominant, as it’s not a big beer. Very pleasant sipper, and such a shame that Fernando couldn’t win his third world championship, despite being, IMHO, the best driver this year. No sign of 8% at all in any way. More classic beer from JP. Anna liked it even better, I think wanting it to give it 3.7 or 3.8.

Thanks to Matt for the bottle! Cloudy yellow pour. Slightly tart citrus, really pungent farmhouse funk, with some sweet lemon, wheat, and a flavor that lingers for quite a while. Really pleasantly surprised by this one.

Excellent slightlt tart a little sour. Very delicious and refreshing. Hint of funkiness but not much. A sourish beer that you can drink all night. I would use this beer to introduce the uninitiated to the concept of sour beers. Love it.

An aged bottle. Batch 568 Bottled 7-14-2010. Found on the shelf at my new favorite bottle shop. Poured into a Duvel Tulip. A light golden color pours from the bottle and collects as a hazy bright orange in the glass. This beer "glows" with a vivid brightness like many wild ales. There are strong columns of carbonation inside the glass. The head is bright white, very soapy and "alive" and is constantly being replenished. Really nice look here. Bright but light citrusy odors up front. Tropical fruit esters follow. Hay, grass and a strong but pleasant earth scent make up the center of the nose. The Brett really shines. Deeper in, I find notes of oak, and very slight lacto and pedio. Really, really complex on the tongue. Starts off with a slightly tart flash of lacto followed quickly by hay, earth and "horse blanket". Everything really crams together on the tongue but it works out well. The brett in this bottle is really strong and I’m definitely going to seek out a fresh on to compare it to. The wild dominates the hell out of this bottle. Crisp and dry in the mouth and carried by an extreme effervesence bordering on Champagne. Another hit from Jolly Pumpkin! I love wild beers and I’m determined after this one and La Roja to get my hands on as many as possible. Especially aged version. The wild character dominates everything here and I love it.
