3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Ashleys in Ann Arbor. I wanted to love this beer, it being a locally brewed GABF winner. But I thought it was only decent. A little flat in character I thought. Still, nice Belgian spiciness, some evervescence, and a mellow maltiness.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: Mucky shade of golden-yellow; translucent & topped with a soapy white head that leaves some respectable lacing on the glass. Critter filled aroma with tons of funk, spice, & balanced tartness. Dry apple skins, tart pears, white pepper, flowers, herbaceous hops, wet oak, musty cheesecloth, clove, orange zest, & damp hay. Nice array of aromas, balanced so seemingly well. This beer could be described as a slightly tart Belgian strong pale ale with extra spices added. Lots of white peppery & hoppy spices outline a somewhat fruity & estery centerpiece complete with pear, apple, hints of lemon, & moderate orange zest. Notes of torrid oak, banana-like esters, & a thick, bready yeast body provide a solid backbone for everything else to lean upon. Tons of that signature JP funk in the back-end, lasting long into the aftertaste. Cheesey, musty, corky, horsey funk & drying oak. Leaves your palate moisture free. Great beer, one of my favorites from Jolly Pumpkin.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle. In bottle 23.5 months. Beer poured hazy orange color with a small fizzy head. Aroma dominated by lactic acid. Other aromas are spicy phenols and funky bret-like aromas. Flavor was spicy (white pepper, grains of paradise) and lemony yeast. Oak is subdued. Good malt character. Very dry. Lively mouthfeel. An interesting and balanced beer.

Bottle; 9.4 fluid ounces; courtesy of the legend of Essex - madmitch76! Appearance it is hazy amber with a nice white head which simmers down to no head.
Aroma is oranges; spices; clove; coriander; fresh bread; hey; oranges and good musty perfume. Taste is oranges; clementines; citrus; lime; coriander; dough; lemons; bubblegum; mangos and spices perhaps a hint of juniper.
A really interesting and complex beer which reminds me a lot of Westmalle trippel. It is also slightly oaky but not ott and the drinkabilitiy is awesome I think this is one of the best US takes on Belgian beers which I have had yet.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From notes. Finally getting around to adding beers from the Detroit Zoo Brew! Enjoyed on September 26. The pour i a hazy gold with a decent foamy white head and some incredible lacing. The aroma is definitely a sour Belgian. There is a strong funk and then the malts dominate. On the back end there is a nice bit of fruit and lemon-y citrus. The flavor is much more malty and bready. There is a little bit of a cherry and lemon blast before a strong woodiness sets in. The mouth feel is a little light, but the carbonation is really powerful. The aftertaste is a sour, malty and fruity, It’s a pleasant surprise, but I’m still not too big on Belgians

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from 2013-05-31 thanks to VanJamer, thanks! Pours a hazy golden with a medium white head that leaves great lacing. Nose is of brett leather, spices, barnyard. Some flowers and a little dusty brett. Taste is pretty much completely dry and really fruity, like a mix between apples and peaches maybe. Body is medium and carbonation pretty high (the usual Jolly Pumpkin slow-gusher). Overall a fine brett beer, every bit as good as I remembered it being!

750ml bottle served in a pint glass.
Enjoyed @ PiBar - Lausanne
A: Pours a pale yellow color. Slightly hazy. Forms a big bubbled and aired white head. Medium to low retention and many lingering lacings left in the glass
S: Quite funky. Malty and sour in the nose. Reminds a Saison somehow since it’s also quite spicy and peppery. Lemony hops and a bit woody
T: Sweet malts followed by a nice moderate sourness. Lemony and peppery. Notes of oak and citrus fruits. Interesting and mild touch of grassy and lemony hops
M: Medium body and carbonation. Sour and citruses aftertaste
O: Excellent drinkability. My first Jolly Pumpkin. Good surprise.
