What was left poured an attractive hazy gold with a fat, white head that hung on a while leaving great lacing rings. The nose is lively with good aromas of lemon, spices, apple, and lots of floral hops. The body is medium and the mouthfeel delicate. The flavor is full of floral hops, vanilla. tartness like found in apples The finish is sour and full of citrus,. While I am tempted to rate this down for being a gusher, I will rate it on its quality. Good Belgian ale, but it is annoying to have a beer this good end up partly on the table and floor. lobonator (10), San Juan, Puerto Rico
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 1, 2010 My favorite Jolly Pumpkin. This is a fascinating beer. Aroma mostly sour. Taste was a wonderful fruity bouquet and sour. Pineapple. Dry not bubbly. A degustatory exploration. Sour beers not my type, but this one is a classic that I would drink again. ansermadide (537), Kyle, Texas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 1, 2010 Batch 409. Pours a cloudy yellow-orange color with no carbonation and a fine white head, densely bubbled lacing. Aroma of yeast, fruit, and oak. Flavor of yeast, spices (cardamom, corriander), and citrus (orange, lemon). Distinctively yeasty, even in the finish, and slightly sour. Although too yeasty for my palate, still yet another enjoyable brew from JP! jsh12bama (348), Alabama, USA

Pours a very hazy golden orange with a big creamy white head that is fed by a steady stream of bubbles from the bottom. The bubbles keep the head healthy for ages and leaves some delicate lacing.
The aroma is tart with some lemon zest and tons of sweet light fruits, pears and apricots especially. On top of that is the spicy Belgian yeast which lends a peppery scent to things. There is a light funky barnyard character as well.
The initial kick has more funk and lemon tartness than the aroma with an initial taste that puckers the lips a bit. The backbone of Belgian yeast and sweet not-quite-ripe fruits is an excellent underpinning to the funk and the peppery spiciness of the dry finish.
The mouthfeel is very effervescent with tons of carbonation, giving it a champagne-like feel. It’s medium bodied but the carbonation makes it feel very light.
This is a fantastic and complex Belgian ale from JP with the tartness and funkiness really coming out. I think this one has picked up some character over the 2 years since it was brewed. Great stuff. ksurkin (418), Norfolk, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 2, 2009 750ml bottle, batch #345/352, from whole foods in greenville. opens with a huge "pop" and this one was a bit of gusher. pours a beautiful, bright yellow-gold with a huge, pillowy white head that lasts forever leaving great lacing along the way. aroma is wonderful with big white wine notes, lemon zest, a bit of funky hay, belgian spice, green apple, and delicate sweet notes of floral hops and vanilla. flavor is excellent as well with fruity notes of tart granny smith apples, ripe pears, and a bit of lemon citrus with mild brett funk, spice, wheat, and smooth oak and cedar wood notes. palate is medium bodied with champagne carbonation and a lingering tart, dry, fruity finish. overall, this is damn fine belgian ale.
