old notes...sampled at michigan winter beer fest, 2010..golden body with big white head..big florals and massive pepper mostly dominate this beer..hints of juicy fruit and sour jolly pumpkin funk in the finish...bizarre, yet refreshing..

MiBG Winterfest 2010: Cloudy golden hue with minimal head. The acidity in this beer smells just like pickles, weird. Some peppers, pale and toasty malts, oak, and a hint of apricot and peaches. The taste twangy, lightly soured and acidic, light biscuit malts, oaky and a bit earthy. Moderate peppery spice tone throughout. The mouth feel is lively and refreshing enough. I called this the pickle beer, sorry just am not into this.

5th Annual MBG Winter Beer Festival, Grand Rapids. Beautiful perfumey nose with clove, banana, and pineapple. Tropical fruit in the body, tart, with bitter esters (including clove) and slowly warming peppery heat. Interesting beer.

Had this on tap at the MBG Winter Fest. Poured a dark straw yellow. Aroma was a bit smoky, garlic was mentioned in the previous rating and I agree with that. Maybe a bit of hot sauce as well. Taste was raither oily in the mouth, some spices, vinegar, pickles, banana peppers and maybe even a bit of smoky ketchup. I didn’t particulary enjoy this beer but that’s not to say it wasn’t well done. This is probably a love/hate beer for most people.

Sampled at the ’10 MBGWF. Golden color with a loose white head. Smoky and garlicy notes abound with some pickled peppers, tarragon and various Italian spices, slight saltiness and a little honey sweetness. There’s a bit of tartness but it seems to come more from the peppers than the wild yeast. The body is creamy, medium-full with lots of carbonation.
