4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 pimpp (8) - Cincinnati, USA - FEB 20, 2009 does not count
BA review:
Shared at RoyMunson’s house along with FtownThrowDown. Thanks for having me over :) Big thanks for bringing this, Steve. I never thought I’d get a chance to try any of these.
12oz. brown bottle, Batch 1, poured into a snifter.
A: Pours a plum flesh copper with some hazing. Short head on the pour that lasts a bit. Some light lacing.
S: Plenty of cherries from the La Roja, pleasantly tart. Great assertive, yet somehow soft JP funkiness. A bit of woodiness from the extended barreling.
T/M: Much of the same from the nose. Just a touch of alcohol creeps in on the edges. The oak and vanilla comes out quite a bit more than in the nose. Very delicate all around but very tasty. The brett has definitely continued to do it’s work. Body is medium light to medium and the carbonation has held up rather well considering its age.
D: Maybe the best of the night. Very drinkable thought basically unattainable.

12 oz. bottle; pours clear copper with trace head upon pouring; I get aromas of a little dirty feet, oranges, lemon peel, stale hay; very light mouthfeel with some dry oak, very light lemon and dry funk; vanilla cookies, light hay; quite simple overall and lacking depth and complexity; plastic-y ginger; kind of strange overall but this does have some age on it

Bottle courtesy of James. Shared w Andy, James and Streets. Pours a bottom-heavy pale orange with some chippy red sediment. Scent is extremely sour, but taste was lacking a little in tartness. Still very good and I would have loved to have had this a few years ago. Some cedar notes.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2011 Bottle split with Andrew, Brendan, and streets. Pours a deep hazy amber body with barely any lacing. Aroma is delicious puckering tart, oak nd fruit. Mouthfeel is thin with very muted flavors, this might been lost at this many year - light notes of fruit, wood.

Transparent red nut body leads to concern over empty profile, a larger bubbled cream head than most of the JP drank this weekend. Bit woody, peppery flavor, heavy paper through finish, light earth and acetic grapefruit. Very oaky flavor, thin with a bit of grapefruit and acetone. Nail polish, light earth and tea finish off the slick, soft profile. Very empty experience throughout.

375ml bottle given to me by my boy Papajcik...Pours a dark muddy orange with notes of copper. A big finger of off white head, pretty good retention...Aroma stunningly lacking a ton of oak, wood notes are there with bourbon, and tart fruits, but not very sour?...The taste keeps me surprised again as its not that sour. Caramel, bourbon, spice, with some tart notes. Not a puckerer at all and the thing I do like is that its not the typical Jolly Pumpkin oak sour flavor.
Not bad but nothing special, maybe its not aging well?

Bottle that was a Summer Secret Santa gift back in 2009 I think. Pours a fairly clear brown with a medium sized head. Nice big sour Jolly Pumpkin aromas hit even as the bottle is opened. Mouthwatering sourness, wood, dark pitted fruits, some soft cherry aromas and some big long acid. Smells awesome, lots of Bam on the nose. Interestingly it doesn’t really follow the nose. Where I was expecting some rather fierce acid up front, instead there’s a nice sweetness. Smooth with some caramel tones and a very faint acidity. Nice barnyard notes and very light cola. Some warming alcohol on the finish which lingers for a while, as well as a bit of tannic bitterness.
3.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 SpencerDB (223) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - JUL 27, 2010
I think the P1 and P4 bottles were courtesy of Ryan at the DC epic tasting. Thanks man! This one started off awesome. Aroma was close to perfect. Super sour, acetyl, slight bandaid, tart. Beautiful nose. Taste was largely disappointing. Too thin, not very sour, not much body. Overall, great aroma, not so great taste
3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 nimbleprop (2235) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - JUN 8, 2010
Sampled at the DC Epic Sour Tasting 2010. Pours a transparent, copper amber with some spitty off white head. Nice, oaky aroma, lightly tart, oranges, caramel, a little salty smelling. Flavor is tart, oranges, caramel, the bourbon flavor is a little watered down. The finish is medium bodied and a touch oaky but a little watery.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Travlr (5400) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - JUN 7, 2010
Bottle at DC Epic Sour Tasting 2010, courtesy of ryan, much appreciated. Hazy copper/brown color, scant head and lacing. Aroma of apple cider, vinegar, oak. Taste is similar with a bit of salt. Nice enough.
