4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 FlacoAlto (3155) - Tucson, USA - MAR 6, 2010
Batch 5; Sampled February 2010
A steady pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces a finger of pale amber tinged, light tan colored froth. The beer is a dark, somewhat concentrated amber color that shows a lightly hazed, red-stained hue when held up to the light. Oh yeah, the aroma is exactly what I wanted, despite not knowing what to expect. Fruity, tart, oak-balanced, but quite integrated, this beer has aromas of red currants, peppery wood, plywood plank notes, bright plum, tart & concentrated apple notes, . All the fruit and complexity happens up front as the finish is dominated by spicy oak, warming alcohol and almost Bourbon like notes. My wife notes that it really smells like cherries and the oak combines with the fruit to remind her of Rum; I think she is right too.
Soft and creamy texture, but it has a light texture of carbonation too. Softly tart rather than aggressively sour, which tends to bring forward a bit fruitiness that reminds me of tart / sweet plums, red-currants, a touch of cranberry and even some apple-like notes. The oak plays a more subdued role in the flavor than it did in the nose, but still contributes to the overall flavor profile here; spicy, peppery oak, a structured woodiness and a tannic, slightly teeth coating astringency as well as a contribution to the texture / body of this brew all provide a much needed, and appreciated balance that works quite well with the other flavors found here. Watered down cherry juice notes, join the other fruit notes as well, and in fact might be the most dominant fruit like flavor in the end.
While the soft carbonation is not a big detriment, I think that this would definitely be quite a bit better with a zippier carbonation. This is quite nice, and I am definitely enjoying this a lot. I can’t help but think that it could finish a little stronger than it does; it seemed phenomenal at first, but seems to have leveled off just a bit here in the end; though it is still maintains a high level. As which each of the other Perseguidor batches in 12oz bottles, this one is gone much too fast.

12 oz. bottle; pours clear copper with light white head lingering; aromas of fresh oak, lemons, vanilla, cookies; lively mouthfeel with very faint puckery finish; lacking much depth again and oak heavy for sure; some lemon and dry malt; not much going overall and another surprising disappointment from Jolly Pumpkin

12 ounce thanks to ogglethorp. Cherry and vinegar. The bite is not intense at all, however, and the blends mellow it out into a smooth and well done beer. Really nice.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 orangesol (323) - Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 9, 2012
Thanks to foofaa for sharing this one at our Gueuze tasting.
A - Pours murky amber orange with a fingers worth of white foam leaving light lace down the glass.
S - Smells of tart funkiness, horse blanket, apples, citric fruit, oak and a muted caramel malt backbone. A ton of lactic funkiness throughout the nose.
T - Starts off with a touch of caramel sweetness quickly being enveloped by the decent sized lactic sourness kick. Once the sourness dies down a bit you get hints of apples, pears, lemons and some dry oak that lingers on the pallet for some time.
M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Lots of lactic tartness initially leaving the pallet dry at the finish.
O - Compared to most of the other sours we drank this one was nothing special but I still enjoyed it none the less. It had plenty of flavor to keep me coming back for more. Thanks again Dan!

Bottle. Pours a hazy deep amber with an off white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a really nice funky note with a bit of light tart fruit. Flavor has light tart fruit with really nice funk, acid and a hint of floral. Really well balanced and complex.

12 oz bottle. Hazy brown with random patches of white foam and speckles. Nose is sour cherry, strawberry and leather. Touches of damp basement, red wine vinegar and toffee. Drinks much like a wine with just the faintest hint of carb. Taste is apricot, soft cherry, crabapple and wood. The sourness is nicely restrained in this one allowing the fruity vinous notes to stand out. Overall, somewhere between a cabernet and a chardonnay.

cloudy orange-y amber with a white head.
the aroma is quite sulfuric... it fades to allow notes of patchouli, dust, chocolate peppers, pale malt and orange to show. light acetic qualities make their way in as well.
the flavor is the same... well balanced tartness and very elegant.
it is relatively light bodied and carbonated softly yet remains crisp. 8/3/8/4/17
