Yes, Michigan and Hawaii are connected. It should be obvious to you now, as you hold this beer, and read this label. John and I designed this beer with two noble fruits from two noble states, Michigan & Hawaii. Cherries and liliko’i. Starting to see the connection? I feel it. So does John. 4391 miles may separate our breweries, but no our thirst for the exquisite. Hipa! -Ron

Draft on tap at Poor Phil’s (Oak Park, IL). Exciting beer to grab on the way home. Pours a deeply haze dulled copper hue, some brownish hues. Cakey tannish head atop stays larger and laces ok, sticks around fairly well as a big film eventually. Aromas are sour cherries and oak, touches of red wine, touches of grapefruit and cranberries. Subtle lactic acid grows with citrusy lemon, sour cranberries, and grapefruit. Mellow touches of sweet malt give some hits with biscuits and toast. Firm farmhouse yeast, touches of vinegar, and funk but it really strikes a fruity sour nose in my opinion. Initial gives a firmly sour start, a touch metallic and vinegar driven showing cherry, cranberry, citrusy lemon and grapefruit, fairly potent sour front. Middle drops the sourness out more, towards a firm bretty funk. Barnyard, straw, touch of leather as this starts to offer that telltale JP wild yeast feel. Straw, some cobwebs, and horseblanket. Gentle sweetness with touches of oak, dryness, brett and mellow sourness start to come back into the equation more. Lingering on. Very well done, assaulting with a sour smack up front and tapering off a firm level into the middle and reviving a bit into the finish. More bretty, inviting and wild as the yeast takes control, mellow oak and fruit that tapers back but never leaes. Fairly complex and well put together for sure. Solid offering that never shines bright flavor wise, but overall is a great experience, complex and balanced with a nice firm sourness that puts it levels above that Cinco Anos offering they did recently.

On tap: The aroma consists tart cherries, lemon, spice, oak, and faint vanilla. It’s a hazy amber with a small beige head that leaves behind minimal webbing for lacing. The flavor starts with a quick dose of tart cherries that is quickly overtaken by sour lemon with some light acidity. The sour lemon lingers in the finish and mixes with some light oak. It’s light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Fruity nose with honey and cotton candy and a touch of bourbon. Taste is lightly sour, some lemon and hay, caramelized yams, apple sauce and oak. Good stuff.

750mL thanks to pepsiedcan. Hazy orange with small beige foam. Nose is incredible. Juicy cherry and rich passion fruit with saltwater. Pineapple juice and white peach. Taste is clean, lightly sour, small saltwater, mango, tropical melons, pineapple. Palate is awesome: quenching, salty, spicy. No vinegar. Full on sour from JP showcasing passion fruit moreso than cherries. Delicious. I love it. Small stingy finish reminiscent of the Maui brewing version which was terrible. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750ml bottle from jolly pumpkin bar in Ann Arbor. Orange-brown pour with a big off-white that dissapears quickly. Cider apple, cherry and light vinegar aroma. I still stink at describing sours, so bear with me here - sour, oak, tropical fruit, cherry, funk, wine, nutty oils (?), and other stuff... Good. Love any sour at this point. Hard to place it, but seems well constructed and definitely enjoyed.

Big thanks to theeabyss for getting this out for us to try. Served in a Jolly Pumpkin tulip. Pours with a very nice cherry red hue and a fizzy off-white head that sticks around for a bit. The nose carries really excellent notes of passion fruit and cherry, with the former really standing out in all of its glory. Note to brewers: please use more passion fruit. Behind that is a touch of oak and that signature Jolly Pumpkin funk. Flavor has more cherry than the nose did, splitting the passion fruit and cherry evenly. Background funk and a touch of something almost vinous. Very light fruity acidity and dryness through the finish. So extremely drinkable. Big winner.

Draft at the festival with Andrew. Pours a hazy amber body with thin white lacing. Aroma is muted cherries and light funk. Mouthfeel is soft with notes of fruit and light funk.

On tap at the Ann Arbor cafe. Pours a reddish orange color. Aroma is berries, lemon, lime, lots of sour fruit. Taste has more sour fruit, upfront with cherries, raisins, tobacco and a bit of wood, and sharp citrus sour on the end, with a bit of ripe sweet fruit in there as well. I really enjoyed this, one of the best fruit beers I have had in a long time. A great summer sipper.
