Sour, barrel-aged version of the beer by the same name. Brewed in collaboration with Maui brewing.

Yes, Michigan and Hawaii are connected. It should be obvious to you now, as you hold this beer, and read this label. John and I designed this beer with two noble fruits from two noble states, Michigan & Hawaii. Cherries and liliko’i. Starting to see the connection? I feel it. So does John. 4391 miles may separate our breweries, but no our thirst for the exquisite. Hipa! -Ron

Working with Ron is something I’ve always want to do since I had my first Jolly Pumpkin beer. Years later, it’s a reality. Being involved on this project was an honor and a privilege. Mahalo to my MBC crew and to you, fans of craft beer! -John

Bottle shared at a sour tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Blend #2. Murky dark orange to light brown with a bit of floaties. Pleasant sourish aroma with some brett, lots of passion fruit and faint hints of cherries. Sour bretty flavor with cherries, a bit of passion fruit and lemony notes. Medium-bodied. Great.

In short: A dark orange ale blending the signature Jolly Pumpkin funk with a thick condensed fruits juice. Very good beer, below average funky JP.
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed a few months after purchase.
The look: Cloudy dark orange topped by a medium beige head leaving good lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is very fruity, more fruity than any JP I’ve ever had. Aroma of exotic fruits, red fruits, peaches, mangos, other fruits, and all those fruits surrounded by the signature JP funk. Body is very full, this beer feels thick and juicy. As with the aroma, fruity flavors of exotic fruits, berries, peaches, more… The nice JP funk I like so much accompanied by a mild sourness and light lactic acidity. A little more sweetness than I expect from a funky JP, maybe I should have a waited a little more before drinking my bottle.. A very good beer with the signature JP funk I love so much, but this one is not as drinkable as most funky JPs, maybe a bit too heavy on the juicy-fruity front. Jolly Pumpkin ales are not the cheapest and this one was even more expensive than most JPs, and it makes me sad to think about all the money I’ve spent on craft beer over the years, if only I could have all that money back I would have enough money to stack up an enormous beer cellar because I can’t learn a lesson.

Bottle. A very good sour. Flavor was a bit underwhelming for me though. Seemed to lack some character compared to the jolly pumpkin biere de mars.

Bottled (Thanks veliempoiot!). Hazy ambery orange colour, small off-white creamy head that leaves some lace. Aroma is strong sour berries, mild wood, some vanilla, and a bit sugary notes. Flavour is berries, some floral, mild wood and rather dry palate. Very pleasant.

750ml bottle split with DC crew. Unfiltered brown-tan. Awesome aroma, soured cherry grape. Mellow medium body. Passionfruit, punchy flavor. Really quite a phenomenal beer, even by JP standards. Mellow malt backbone really complements the fruit and sour flavors. Drinkable and delicious, faint mineral tones, juicy finish.
