From its red-pink color to its floral, tart, funky aroma, this Jolly Pumpkin / Arbor Brewing Co. collaboration beer has a mouthwatering start, a very tart and sour middle and a funky, peppery finish. Whoa!

On tap: The aroma consists of light-moderate lemon, light vinegar, a touch of cola, florals, and faont herbal notes. Itís a transparent amber with a minimal off-white head that quickly fades to a very fine ring. The flavor starts with with a quick dose of cola and faint vinegar. The finish has moderate-heavy sour lemon, light floral notes, and a touch of sour oak. Itís light bodied with light-moderate carbonation.

Tap @ Jolly Pumpkin: Beautiful ruby color with orange highlights. Translucent, cloudy, topped with a fuchsia-tinted layer of foam that vanishes quickly leaving nothing behind. Aroma is floral with handfuls of leafy & herbal hops, spice, white pepper, hibiscus, & a strong bit of perfume. Lots of typical JP funk on the back-end; heavy notes of musty cellar & cork. Little bit of oak, too. Very modest fruit on the nose, perhaps raspberry or cherry. Kind of vague. More sweet than tart on the nose. Taste is also heavily floral up front; hibiscus, herbal tea leaves, generic forestry. Lots of spices, too. I can pull coriander, white pepper, maybe clove... but it seems like the whole kitchen rack is here. Earthy, peppery, herbal. Mild cherry fruitiness, vague berry. Definitely more sweet than tart. Actually this is barely tart at all. More funky, dry, & just ever so slightly sweet. Lots of damp oak & must in the finish. Thin, crisp mouth feel though not as dry as most of JPís offerings.

In short: A flowery and tart red Saison. A nice girly rustic ale.
How: Growler shared at post HF FoFA 2013 party.
The look: Almost clear bright red body topped by a small pinky-beige head.
In long: Nose is garden flowers, a certain rusticity (not the signature JP funk) and hints of red tart fruits (raspberries?). In mouth the beer offers a standard clean thirst ale mouthfeel with appropriate carbonation. Taste follows through. Hay-like cereals, hibiscus, tart red fruits, lemon zest, grandma pink peppermints, white pepper. A bit reminiscent as their Jolly Pumpkin Baudelaire iO but less rustic, less dry, more flowery, more fruity. Overall a bit ďgirlyĒ. A decent beer but this was one of Jolly Pumpkinís weakest offering. This is my opinion and you have to respect my opinions, because if there is something I hate it is when some random dude on the internet treats me like Iím just some random dude on the internet.

On draft at JP in Ann Arbor. Pours a hazy pink with a pink head. Nose is some floral character, some nice malt, tartness, and some peppery yeast with hints of Jolly Pumpkin yeast. Flavor is similar with floral notes galore, tartness, and the characteristic Jolly Pumpkin yeast. Light to medium in body and delicious overall.

On tap at Jolly Pumpkinís Cafe in Ann Arbor, this looks super sour, glowing rose/red in color with a light pink head and amazing lacing. Itís gorgeous, but definitely not what youíd expect from a beer. It looks more like something your grandmother would drink. Its aroma is strong of rose petals and perfume, with a touch of soured grain, yeast, and fruit. Itís not as sour in the mouth, very much like a watered down sour red. Itís very thin, very perfumy, light on the palate and mouthfeel. Itís definitely very girly and not as sour as I expected it to be. Itís finish, reminiscent of a sour red, offers more sourness than the flavor. Yes, this is much like a watered down sour red - with lots of perfume and flowers. Neat, but odd. Different, but well-done.
