Commercial Description:
The fourth in our Bam Farmhouse series, and perhaps our most adventurous; a traditional farmhouse style hefeweizen. Weizen Bam seamlessly blends traditional German style hefeweizen yeast with our own local wild and sour cultures, for a melange of the most flavorful sort. Ruddy golden, with yeast driven esters of banana, spicy clove, and nutmeg all wrapped up with a generous dose of good-natured rapscallion delight.

(Draught) Pours a cloudy yellow body with a tall frothy white head. Aroma of citrus, dusty, florals, sour citrus, banana, and clove. Flavor of tangy lemon, wheat, banana and some funkiness. Light and nicely refreshing.

Mmmmmm. Hazy yellow pour with a nice sized white head. Aroma is funky wheat, some citrus and grass. Flavor follows through. Quite a bit of yeasty goodness in this as well. Very mildly tart finish.

750 ml bottle courtesy of PhillyBeer2112. Batch 315/316 noted on the bottle. Pour is hazed white yellow with a two inch pure white head that falls immediately. Really no lacing to speak of. Carbonation bubbles coat the glass. Aroma of sour wheat, yeast and some citric earthiness. Some soft barnyard in there as well. Most certainly a Jolly Pumpkin nose. Taste is tart wheat initially, with a funky orange juice citrus in the middle and finally lingering yeasty sourness to the finish. There is a nice husky wheat flavor to it. Finally, way in the back I get some cloves. Very natural tasting. The palate is thinnish. Quite a bit of carbonation. Overall, interesting as all Jolly Pumpkin beers are, but a bit too thin and one dimensional for me. I didn’t get hardly any of the banana esters and nutmeg noted on the bottle. Thanks for sending this one my way, Dan!

750 via trade with Jimbowood, thanks jimbo. I’ve been looking forward to this. Shared with dalekliz and my girlfriend Cyn. Batch 315/316. Pours cloudy yellow with a 1 finger bright white head. Nose is wheaty and light and nice with some banana notes. Taste is really pretty damn nice. The taste has a really nice feel its a really nice blend of cloves and spices with a bit less banana. Its there but muted. Overall great hefeweizen with a nice bit of funk.

Bottle - 750mL capped - from the Michael Jackson Rare Beer Club. Batch 315/316. Pours a pale gold with a tall fizzy white head. It’s gone in seconds. The aroma gives off that Jolly Pumpkin funk before I’ve gotten my nose near it. Sour fruits, lemon, yogurt, and banana make up the bulk of the nose along with a funky yeast backbone. The taste is sour but not too extreme. Delicate yogurt, banana, wheat, yeast, soft sour milk flavors, candy, lemon and funk make this a tart hefe. Body is very light and very bubbly. Some dryness and acidic notes in this but still not too extreme. Finishes with more sour fruit, yogurt, light sour milk, wheat/grains, sweet malt, some candy, banana, yeast and spices. There’s a bit of bitterness towards the end as well. The perfect solution for wanting something crisp and refreshing but with a tolerable tartness. Yummy!

Bottle… Post RBSG ’08 O-Town/Vero Beach Throwdown Chapter 8… Poured from the bottom of the bottle, I received cloudy, white-ish ale that looked a lot like coconut milk with a small, creamy, white head. Funky, acidic nose with only a whimper of the typical hefe esters and phenols. Medium-bodied with a skim-milk mouthfeel and gentle carbonation. Sweet, but even more so lactic and tart. Finishes tangy and lightly bitter… then dries completely out. Thanks to Beerlando for sharing this brew!

Draft @ Ashley’s. Pours a hazy, straw color; creamy white head with great retention and lacing that coats the glass. Pleasant dry wheatiness and tart citrus in the aroma; nice, subdued brett presence; wheaty, softly husky. Medium mouthfeel: lightly tart lemony brett and funk coupled to a soft German hefe character: wheat and very light cloves and bananas; highly drinkable, crisp, dry and very lively and mouthwatering; great aperitif. Medium finish: lightly tart citrus, toasty wheat (light huskiness); crisp, very dry and toasty ending.
