The fourth in our Bam Farmhouse series, and perhaps our most adventurous; a traditional farmhouse style hefeweizen. Weizen Bam seamlessly blends traditional German style hefeweizen yeast with our own local wild and sour cultures, for a melange of the most flavorful sort. Ruddy golden, with yeast driven esters of banana, spicy clove, and nutmeg all wrapped up with a generous dose of good-natured rapscallion delight.

Wow, this is incredible! Never had a sour beer that was this well balanced and modest. Poured at a good temperature with a nice sized, off-white, foamy, head that soon subsided and no lace. Color is a clear yel low with lots of bubble trails. Aroma is yeast, grass, malt, sour, floral. Flavor’s like nose, fairly dry, bitter is superbly balanced to carbonic tang. Body reflects that balance and in spite of the potential for extreme, there are no high points while carbonation is exactly where it should be. Finish is like flavor, has good length, and is surprisingly drinkable. Outstanding brau!!

bottle at Le Saint Bock. pours cloudy yellow with a nice thick creamy white head. aroma is loaded with citrus and wild yeast. taste is unlike anything i’ve ever had. all the characteristics of a good Hefe, but with a Cantillon like flavour in the end. medium bodied with a light feel to it, i could seriously drink this all day long. this is my first jolly pumpkin beer, and hopefully not my last.

This poured a hazy straw yellow color with a fluffy white head. looked like liquid lemon morange pie glowing against the fire light. Aroma was of bright lemons, grass, wheat, light spices, and mild funky oak. Flavor was just as complex and refreshing as I was expecting from the appearance/aroma. wheaty lemony woody funk juice. Probably the most refreshing beer i’ve ever had.

Tap: The aroma is combination of floral notes, mustiness, light lemon, and very faint banana. It pours a cloudy dull pale yellow with a large white head with excellent retention. Significant sudsy lacing is left behind. The flavor starts with a moderate lemon sourness that lingers throughout and mixes with some light floral hoppiness in the finish. Minimal hefe characteristics outside of the faint banana in the aroma. Very similar to regular Bam Biere only more lemon sourness and less floral notes. Light bodied with minimal carbonation and a soft mouthfeel. I don’t know if this was what was intended since I find minimal hefe characteristics, but I really dig it. Very refreshing.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2009 Hazy gold with big, foamy white head / Complex, floral and bretty nose of orchard fruit, citrus, and spice / Very light body, tart and acidic, with good balance and long, dry finish / Subdued flavors of lemon, wheat, banana, oak, and a good dose of barnyard funk / A stretch to call it a hefeweizen, but nonetheless a great wheat beer by the Pumpkin without peer.

Smells like nutmeg and sour mix. Pours with no head, beautiful color, orange and gold hue. Strong sour front note and a bit of a heffeweizen after taste. Jolly Pumpkin makes the best sours. After opening this one I wish I would have saved it for about a year.

Pours a straw color with medium clarity and great rising bubbles. Big white foamy head that rides the beer for a few minutes. Aromas are bright and snappy; cereal, citrus, sour peach and just a touch of funky yeast. On the palate this refreshingly tart beer really delivers with quenching sour fruit, granny apples, lemon zest, and a good dose of wheat cereal malts to balance the flavors.

Apple, sour, Brett, spicy. Nice combination. And at 4.5% you can knock back a few of these. I’ve had this a few times now and love it more avery time.

22oz bottle courtesy of Beerorlando. Pours a hazy light yellow. Awesome tart funky nose with hints of clove and cinnamon. Sour bite up front. Huge tart notes with a subtle straw and wheat finish and a funky bretty lingering tang. Awesome beer.
