COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Five beer enthusiasts with a common passion for historic brewing came together to create this distinct Polish beer style in the most authentic way we can think of after the brewery in Grodzisk Wielkopolski closed in 1993. It is brewed by Jopen and Monarchy of Musselland together with the beer writers Ron Pattinson and Evan Rail. We use 100% oak-smoked wheat malt, have the exact same gravity of 7.7 degrees Plato, employed classic Lublin hops and fermented with the original yeast. As the town once and again today belongs to Poland, but in the meantime was part of Prussia, there are two different names for the style: Grodziskie and Grätzer. Our research found that brewers also formerly used willow bark in brewing which we thought was an interesting variation. That is why we are offering two different takes on the style: a classic version bearing the name "Grätzer"and a willow bark version called "Grodziskie".

Bottle via trade with Roman. It pours cloudy golden with a medium white head. The nose is earth, moderate smoke, creamed cheese and smoked ham. The taste is smooth, wheat, pithy citrus, spice, dull smoke, damp wood, leaf and decent bitterness with a dryish finish. Lightish body and moderate carbonation. Interesting, but mild and fairly subdued. Ok.

Bottle 33cl from Quack-Duck many thanks ! Cloudy copper beer with low creamy head. Nose is intense on smoked notes, dryed fruits and marzipan. Aroma is again intense on smoked notes, light malty base, fresh feeling, mint, ginger, grapefruit, very peppery and very very bitter. Wheat malt is not evident. Finish is extreamly smoked and bitter, with a very long duration. I haven’t felt any sour touch, anyway very intereting experience.

Bottle @ Bruce’s. The pour’s hazy gold with a tiny white head. The nose is smoky wheat. Light lemon curd. A bit of ham. Smoked wood. The taste is lemon peel bitterness. Earthy smoke. Soft wheat. More ham. Moderate mineral on the finish. Light body, fine carbonation. Overall, solid for what it is. Not my favorite style.

Bottle from Bierkompass.de. Pours murky weak golden with a big frothy white head. Aroma is weak peat, salt and cured meat. Taste is weird, mix of salty minerals, light smoked meat and some dry hops towards the end, which has a sour twist. One bottle is plenty...

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks Paul. Hazy gold beer, little white head. Light crisp palate. Airy malt with fairly robust white smoke. Finishes light and dry with mild minerals and a touch of citrus.

Flaska från beernavigator. Mycket grumlig gyllengul/smutsbrun lågt vitt skum.

Bottle at Bruce’s, London. Thanks to Paul for some rare styling. Pours murky, pale yellow-gold with a moderate, frothy white head. Some sweet dough on the nose, hints of peaty smoke. Light sweet flavor, fairly dry, some minerals, moderate smoke, hay. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Dry finish, minerally, some white smoke, hints of lemon, ham, hay, dry dough. Pretty novel stuff.
