COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Five beer enthusiasts with a common passion for historic brewing came together to create this distinct Polish beer style in the most authentic way we can think of after the brewery in Grodzisk Wielkopolski closed in 1993. It is brewed by Jopen and Monarchy of Musselland together with the beer writers Ron Pattinson and Evan Rail. We use 100% oak-smoked wheat malt, have the exact same gravity of 7.7 degrees Plato, employed classic Lublin hops and fermented with the original yeast. As the town once and again today belongs to Poland, but in the meantime was part of Prussia, there are two different names for the style: Grodziskie and Grätzer. Our research found that brewers also formerly used willow bark in brewing which we thought was an interesting variation. That is why we are offering two different takes on the style: a classic version bearing the name "Grätzer"and a willow bark version called "Grodziskie".

Tasted it together with the Grätzer in In de Wildeman. Not easy to distinguish from the Grätzer, just as great as the Grätzer is. Very good session beer.

Flaska från beernavigator. Mycket grumlig gyllengul/smutsbrun lågt vitt skum.

Bottle at Bruce’s, London. Thanks to Paul for some rare styling. Pours murky, pale yellow-gold with a moderate, frothy white head. Some sweet dough on the nose, hints of peaty smoke. Light sweet flavor, fairly dry, some minerals, moderate smoke, hay. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Dry finish, minerally, some white smoke, hints of lemon, ham, hay, dry dough. Pretty novel stuff.

33cl bottle from De Bierkoning in Amsterdam. Pours a very cloudy, dirty straw and sewage colored body with a finger-width, creamy and frothy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is moderately smoked and woody with a good amount of yeast, some fruity esters, a lightly sweetened wheat malt backing, and some peppery spice. Flavor is similar. A bit more phenolic and some plastic to the smoked wood, but not too bad. Some peppery, spicy yeast and a light wheat note with a few fruity esters before this finishes dry, woody, slightly salty, and smoky with a light bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a light body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, an interesting beer. Pretty dry, smoky, and woody, but balanced enough to keep it fairly easy drinking. Not bad.

Bottle. A very hazy pale to medium golden beer, with a large, frothy/creamy, lacing, mostly lasting, white head. The aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain/bread), lightly to moderately yeasty (leather), with notes of smoked ham, wood and maybe fish, banana and spices/pepper. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately acidic, hint of bitterness. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, very long finish with light bitterness. Different and worth a try. Nice aroma and lacing, but the aftertaste is a bit sharp, unrefined, unpleasant. Interesting.

33 cl bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is smoked. Towards burned plastic. Bitter, smoked and dry. Light chemical touch. Dry and smoked into the far finish. I guess there are more than reason as to why some beerstyles died, not sure there are as many reasons to revive the styles.
