COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Five beer enthusiasts with a common passion for historic brewing came together to create this distinct Polish beer style in the most authentic way we can think of after the brewery in Grodzisk Wielkopolski closed in 1993. It is brewed by Jopen and Monarchy of Musselland together with the beer writers Ron Pattinson and Evan Rail. We use 100% oak-smoked wheat malt, have the exact same gravity of 7.7 degrees Plato, employed classic Lublin hops and fermented with the original yeast. As the town once and again today belongs to Poland, but in the meantime was part of Prussia, there are two different names for the style: Grodziskie and Grätzer. Our research found that brewers also formerly used willow bark in brewing which we thought was an interesting variation. That is why we are offering two different takes on the style: a classic version bearing the name "Grätzer"and a willow bark version called "Grodziskie".

Tasted it together with the Grätzer in In de Wildeman. Not easy to distinguish from the Grätzer, just as great as the Grätzer is. Very good session beer.

33cl bottle from BierNavigatie. Hazy somewhat brownish orange with a medium soapy white head. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. Smoky with some sweet and bitter tones. Lots of smoke, furthermore herbs, grass, spices and flowers. A delightful tasty and refreshing special brew.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours a hazy golden with white head. Aroma is a very nice smokiness backed with some pale malts, although I don’t get much bark, but that might be because I don’t quite know what to look for in bark. Taste is smoky with a sort of thin backbone. The smoke carries this quite easily. I don’t really get much of the sour.

Bottle from P&M Getränke, Bonn - best before 11/2013. Pours hazy golden with small, uneven head. Sour smoky aroma. Funky sour smokiness continues on the palate, almost too heavy to drink. Lots of residual yeast on the bottom. Bottle might have gone a bit off - I hope.

Bottle. Amber beer with a cream head. Caramel and light wheat aroma with light smoke. Smoke and light citrus flavor. Medium-light bodied. Smoke and light citrus lingers with light wheat.

Fra fad, Mikkeller & Friends. Uklar i udseende og i duft. Som at stå i Vesterbro Svømmebad i 80’erne. Masser af klor i næsen, og lidt salt i munden. Det er jo nok røgmalten, er spiller et puds. Mineralsk, kemisk, bitter, vandig. Mere interessant end god.

Very very hazy straw colored pour, with a small white head. Upfront, strong smoked wheat aroma, lots of smoke, meat, smells like bacon cooking over a campfire. The smoke totally dominates, and masks much of the other flavors. The finish is very savory, and salty, with hints of wheat. Very interesting brew.
