Five beer enthusiasts with a common passion for historic brewing came together to create this distinct Polish beer style in the most authentic way we can think of after the brewery in Grodzisk Wielkopolski closed in 1993. It is brewed by Jopen and Monarchy of Musselland together with the beer writers Ron Pattinson and Evan Rail. We use 100% oak-smoked wheat malt, have the exact same gravity of 7.7 degrees Plato, employed classic Lublin hops and fermented with the original yeast. As the town once and again today belongs to Poland, but in the meantime was part of Prussia, there are two different names for the style: Grodziskie and Grätzer. Our research found that brewers also formerly used willow bark in brewing which we thought was an interesting variation. That is why we are offering two different takes on the style: a classic version bearing the name "Grätzer"and a willow bark version called "Grodziskie".

Tasted it together with the Grätzer in In de Wildeman. Not easy to distinguish from the Grätzer, just as great as the Grätzer is. Very good session beer.

4 oz pour on draft at ChurchKey during the Freigeist Bierkultur Tap Takeover. Hazy yellow with off-white head. Aromas of tangy barbeque sauce, light honey. Tastes of wheat, floral notes, citrus. Light body with a dry finish.

12 ounce bottle. Yeasty wheaty beer withs some lingering smoke. The smoke is too whitefish for me.

Bottle. Pours hazy gold with a fluffy white head that dissipates to a thin layer. Aromas are clove, smoked malt, fruit and cheese. Fruity esters--citrus, grape; sweet malt; smoked oak; clove. Slight herbal hop tones. Thin, watery mouthfeel. Clean finish. Very interesting flavors. Refreshing.

Ruikt zoetig, honing, boterbabbelaar. Smaakt zoetig, honing, bloemig en iets gerookt. Tikkeltje dun.

drinking this after the "grätzer" version. looks very similar murky, orange, maybe a little redder. smell is a little lambic/lactic, wet wood, leather, hint of licorice and cold smoke. taste is sour, citrus, still smokey, but sour and umami with a hint of soy in the aftertaste. light bodies and refreshing, will be gone quickly...

Bottle shared by Dan at the house. Snifter pour was a mostly unfiltered cloudy orange brown with a thick head. Some decent lace. Aroma is leather, smoke, dough, bread, cereal, and hayfield. The taste is solid with cereal, dough, leather, smoke, grass, hay, and wheat noodle. Medium to full body, moderate carb, complex flavors and finish.

Bottle 33cl. Cloudy yellow white color. One finger frothy white head, dissipates very slowly to a thick layer, good lacing; aroma smoky, burned wood, tree bark (I think), cheese, vegetables; mild taste, combination of sweet, bitter and sour, smokiness, cooked vegetables; light body, watery texture, soft carbonation; mild bitter finish, grassy and earthy notes, and also some sweetness, smokiness lingers on in the aftertaste. Interesting, quite complex in every aspect. Wouldn’t drink it very often though.
