COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Five beer enthusiasts with a common passion for historic brewing came together to create this distinct Polish beer style in the most authentic way we can think of after the brewery in Grodzisk Wielkopolski closed in 1993. It is brewed by Jopen and Monarchy of Musselland together with the beer writers Ron Pattinson and Evan Rail. We use 100% oak-smoked wheat malt, have the exact same gravity of 7.7 degrees Plato, employed classic Lublin hops and fermented with the original yeast. As the town once and again today belongs to Poland, but in the meantime was part of Prussia, there are two different names for the style: Grodziskie and Grätzer. Our research found that brewers also formerly used willow bark in brewing which we thought was an interesting variation. That is why we are offering two different takes on the style: a classic version bearing the name "Grätzer"and a willow bark version called "Grodziskie".

Small white head. Muddy pale, yellow body. Smoky wheaty juniper aroma with mealy notes. Dryish meaty resiny wooden smoky taste with mealy wheaty notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish smoky resiny wooden aftertaste with mealy dandelion notes. Some acid in the background, as well as horse and barnyard notes. Nice, weird, complex. (0.2l draft at Mikkeller Stefansgade, Copenhagen.)

Bottle. Pours hazy gold white head. Nose/taste of smoked wheat, smoked meat, smoked banana and light citrus. Lighter medium body.

Slightly hazy golden colour, white foamy head that nicely laces the beer. Nose has smoky but creamy cheese and sweet malts. Additionally, taste is very soft and slightly acidic (probably the oat or the yeast used). A little more rounded that the Grätzer but flavourwise they’re very likewise. Medium carbonation, easily drinkable light body.

Tap at the Jeffrey. Pours hazy greenish yellow with soapy head that quickly vanishes. Nose is smoked wheat all the way. Tastes of wheat, lemony citrus, peppery, sour cardboard, woody (willow bark I suppose), and light bacon. Nice carbonation and body. Pleasant quick sipper

Beautiful opaque luminescent orange hay colour, nice frothy head with big bubbles. Smell is a mixture of puke, wood and rotten fruit, with some subtle smoke. Some citrus sourness there too. Taste is very watery with a touch of citric bitterness and smoke. Meaty. Light touch of leather and some fruitiness.

Bottle @ Greg’s dump. Pours a bit hazy golden appearance with a white head. Burnt leaves, smoky woody, light apple, lemon, a bit salty aroma. Medium bodied. Low sweetness and low to moderate sweetness. Slightly tart. Citrusy. Kind of fun.

0,33l fles gedeeld met Nikos, biertje met een koperkleur geur en smaak redelijk vlak iets zurig, de rook erg op de achtergrond. Viel wat tegen zeker in vergelijking met de grätzer.

At Borefts Beer Festival 2013. Cloudy yellow with a lasting white head. Aroma of clove, smoke and grassy hops. Malty and spicy flavour with banana notes. Slightly tart and somewhat yeasty

Bottle from Belmont Station, Portland. Pours a medium golden orange, decent amount of white head which dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma interesting; definite smoke character but also a some biscuit and caramel notes, like an over-malty IPA. Body decently lively, finish smoky but in an artificial way. Essentially disappointing.

Bottle from the BierKoning. Hazy yellow-whitish pour with thin white head. Aroma of lemon rind, lemon tea, smokey, iced tea notes, something distinctly tree-like, don’t know if it’s really the willow bark but it is certainly pleasant. Taste is mild, light smokiness, lemony, zesty, quite refreshing, light floury body with mild bitter vegetal finish. Palate is light, a tad watery, low carbonation. Super easy drinking, I’d have this on cask on my patio all summer long.

Bottle @ De Molen. Aroma is silty herbs, some malty notes. Flavour is zesty bitter grains with herbs and spices. Lot of things going on. Not really my thing.
