Aroma: pretty spicy, lots of cloves, cinnamon, bit sweet, caramel, some banana. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: spicy start, cinnamon, some caramel, pretty malty, some citrus, little bitter. Aftertaste: bit of chocolate, caramel, soft roast, bit yeasty, cinnamon, other spices. A pretty enjoyable pumpkin ale!

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330 ml. bottle @ home as “Mashing Pumpkins 4.0”. BBF 09 OKT 2017. Lightly hazy burned sugar amber, little off-white tanned head. Nose is very artificial pumpkin pie mix, very oily, big burned sugar, weird oily plastic pumkin pie mix which should have been backed by sugar or biscuit notes instead of this semi herbal, burned sugar, plastic oil. Bitter oily burned sugar, plastic oil, herbal, bitter medicinal oil, herbal oily cough syrup, herbal, soft carbonation. Taste is too harsh, body a bit too oily, raw burned herbs finish. Spice mix seemed a bit promising but this very herbal, burned super-oily weird herbal plastic oil is not really what I look for as a base in a pumkin beer, they pushed it a bit too far in the wrong direction in my opinion.

Een tripel met pompoen. In het aroma zitten naast pompoen tonen van laurier, kruidnagel en tijm. In de smaak komen deze specerijen ook terug, evenals gist en een diepe pompoensmaak. De kleur is donkeroranje. Lekker bier.

The beer has some good looks. The color is orange, which can be aspected from a pumpkin brew. The beer has a nice cloudiness. The beer pours a nice rough layer of white foam, of which the bulk collapses quickly. A lilt drape remains on top of the beer. The smell of the beer is very nice. There are a lot of spicy aromas. I smell cloves, cinnamon, a delicious sweet pumpkin aroma and an overall beer like bitterness. The blend between pumpkin and spices is very good. There is also a tiny touch of roasted bitterness. The beer smells just like I expected. The taste of the beer is good aswel. There is a savory touch to it. The beer has a good spicy kick, filled with cloves and cinnamon. There is also a little licorice touch to it. The beer tastes a lot like the American thanksgiving beers, like the one I had from Anderson Valley last year. Very nice.

(Draught at In De Wildeman, Amsterdam, 20 Feb 2016) Amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with pumpkin, cinnamon, dried fruit and caramel. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, toffee, pumpkin, dried fruit, cinnamon and a balanced spicy bitterness in a slightly sweetish finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty an well made with a balanced pumpkin character. Quite nice.

Courtesy of Craftmember, thanks! With slightly altered label. The (self-proclaimed) first American style pumpkin ale in the Netherlands. Thickly cobweb-lacing, pale greyish beige, moussy, dense and stable head over a clear warm orangey copper coloured beer. Aroma of cinnamon, old gingerbread, straw, cooked pumpkin (or ’courgette’) indeed, chicken broth, pink pepper, mangostan, pumpernickel bread, old apple cake, allspice, dried garden herbs, brown sugar, damp earth or even fermenting autumn leaves, mushroom, some ’deep’ redcurrant underneath. Sweetish onset, mashed pumpkin indeed, but also hints of red apple, overripe apricot, redcurrant - more sweet than sour. Softish carbo, lean and supple body, agreeable bready and lightly caramelly malt sweetness forms a steady and firm backbone, while the initial fruitiness goes on and quite a lot of aromatic, ethereal spiciness comes in, growing in intensity, yielding retronasal flavors of cinnamon, allspice and cloves, quite intensely so as expected from the style; finishes juicy and sweetish with a big amount of drying, ethereal spices and a splash of warming, brown rum-like alcohol, which becomes a bit tiresome in the end. Unusual but not unpleasant, warming autumn beer, I enjoyed this a lot, but it does require an understanding of American pumpkin ales, for sure. I wish some Belgian micro breweries were brave enough to try out something like this.
