3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Douberd (625) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 3, 2013
Bottle, 330 ml, at home, poured into a shaker glass. First pumpkin ale for me. ABV 9%
Pours a deep caramel orange colour beer, with minimal activity in it. Two fingers of soapy, light beige head with average retention and light lacing left behind on the glass.
Aroma is full of spices.
Taste is sweet but only mildly. Lots of spices on the taste as well, cinammon I am thinking, a bit of smoke too. Alcohol not notable at all. The pumpkin is there but hidden somewhere on the back, very discreet.
Medium thick body, light to medium carbonation.
Pretty drinkable and the fact that is 9% keeps you from drinking it too fast and becoming over cloyed by the spices.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 worldbeertaste (1121) - Lancashire, ENGLAND - FEB 13, 2013
Ever eat really thick and gooey pumpkin pie while drinking ale? This is it. Lots and lots of pumpkin all over this one. Hazy orange brown with a thick, somewhat lasting beige head. Smells of pumpkin and gingerbread, cinnamon with caramel and malt. Medium oily body with soft almost no carbonation. Tastes of pumpkin pie and ale. Caramel, malt with light spices. This is the most developed pumpkin beer I’ve had thus far. Very drinkable for 9%. Desert and beer. Would love to eat this with a slice of pumpkin pie.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20 ShivanDragon (482) - Leeuwarden, NETHERLANDS - FEB 4, 2013
helder amber/rood met schuimig witte kraag, welke afvlakt tot minimale bedekking.
aroma: uniek aroma; moutig, hoppig, zoet, pompoen.
smaken: droog, pompoen, zoet, rook, kruidig, pittigheid(chili), gember, nootmuskaat.
medium body.
indruk: unieke smaken van pompoen en het pittige van de chili. In de afdronk is de chili iets te nadrukkelijk aanwezig. al met al een prima bier.
ik kan deze uitdaging wel waarderen!

This is one of those beers that is a first and I applaud the effort very much. There is a taste of pumpkin that is nice. OK, this beer doesn’t blow me away but breweries should try this more.

Clear red brown, off-white head. Weird aroma of spices, boiled vegetables, smoke, sausages and pumpkin sweetness. Taste is the same. Always nice to try something completely different, but this is just too much and too weird. Body and carbo are fine.
