COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed by Huyghe for Jopen (www.jopen.nl). Until 2006 brewed by Van Steenberge. Jopen Adriaan is made as a lighter version of a gruit beer. Gruit is a medieval herbal mixture of which sweet gale is the most characteristic. Brewers used this gruit before hops were introduced. The beer contains 5% alcohol and is also brewed with herbs, but different ones than those used in Koyt. The herbs used in Adriaan contribute in the refreshing taste of Adriaan. The light taste of Adriaan can be compared with Wheat beers (Witbier) as those are made in Belgium and Holland.

Following PINT-information, all Jopen beers are currently brewed at Van Steenberge brewery, Belgium. Ochre colour with amber shine. Slim white head. Nose is diacetyl and coriander. Sweet taste. Perfumed like Basmati rice. Diacetyl. Diacetyl gives false sweetness and fuller mouthfeel. Poor. Not something Van Steenberge should be proud of.

had this on tap at some well-stocked but pricey beer bar in arnhem. original stuff - very yeasty aroma then lots of dark grape and watermelon with a surprisingly sour/dry finish. had this in between a few abbeys and it more than matched them tastewise

This orange collored beer is more refreshing than most wheatbeers. Although I doubt if this beer is a fair compairison with wheatbeers. After the refresing taste there is a good bitterness in the aftertaste. My terras favourit.

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2005 re-rate: Aroma of strong apple mixed with spices and yeast. Cloudy, ambet/yellow color, white head, good lace. Pretty sweet, light bitter, some spices at first but when the sweetness disappears the spices get stronger. Soft and smooth. 2001, Total score 2.0: Smells and tastes like some spices we normally use with our beef. It’s also a bit sour.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2007 Bottled, gift from my mother. Fruity with lots of herbs. Very easy to drink. Like most of the other beers from this brewery, pretty good.

Light and refreshing beer. Compare it with Wheat beers indeed, but it misses some flavour compared to the great wheats, like Hoegaarden. It’s a bit more watery. I wonder who added this beer and didn’t rate it?
