COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed by Huyghe for Jopen (www.jopen.nl). Until 2006 brewed by Van Steenberge. Jopen Adriaan is made as a lighter version of a gruit beer. Gruit is a medieval herbal mixture of which sweet gale is the most characteristic. Brewers used this gruit before hops were introduced. The beer contains 5% alcohol and is also brewed with herbs, but different ones than those used in Koyt. The herbs used in Adriaan contribute in the refreshing taste of Adriaan. The light taste of Adriaan can be compared with Wheat beers (Witbier) as those are made in Belgium and Holland.

Bottle. Average egg-white thick head that mostly lasted. Clear sparkling body with a golden color. Good display of lacework. Very fruity and soapy like in the aroma. Notes of perfume, caramel and citrus as well. Hint of spice and coriander. Light bodied with a soft carbonation. Light sweet flavor with a hint of citrus. Soapy and perfumed finish.

Bottle, shared by yespr. Clear, golden body, with a small, off-white head. Fruity nose with tea and spices. The flavor starts rather fruity, and some tea-like spicyness comes after a while. As expected, there’s not much bitterness. Medium body. I’m having hard times believing it’s brewed as a traditional gruit beer, it’s too good for that, but it’s still not good enough to be more than nice and interesting. (071005)

ABUSEDGOAT (1937) - California, USA - OCT 20, 2007
Hazy orange, moderate head, some lacing and retention. Aroma is very fruity spicy with orange and belgian yeast type notes. More herbal spicy notes, hard to describe. Medium to light body, fairly sweet boring malt finish. Somewhat interesting but not that special.

(Bottle 30 cl) Courtesy of yespr. Hazy, pale golden with a small, white head. Very spicy aroma. Fairly light body with sweetish, malty accents. Notes of flowers and honey. Very subdued bitterness. Unusual and quite interesting. 051007

30 cL bottle. Pours pale and hazy yellow with a lacing white head. Aroma has a minor but still distinct spice note. Flavour is slight oat flavoured, mellowish/soft in flavour and mouthfeel. Ends slight sweet yet still somewhat oatish. Nice and clearly differently herbal and spiced flavoured.

Poursa hazed golden color with no head. Nose is lemon like with a lemongrass edge to it as well. Flavor is slightly tart and leafy (as in the leaves of plants). I usually dig flavored or spiced beers, but this is nasty. Feel is thin like water and syrup mixed together. Not drinkable. This could easily be the worst brew I have tasted in a long time; on par with the infamous green chile beer I had in New Mexico. Avoid.

Poured an orange-metallic hue unlike most beers with a small bubbly head. Great aroma of floral herbs (bottle didn’t specify and I can’t guess) Tasted like orange peel, lemon, or other fruits. A little watery in finish, but I could session the heck out of this beer if it were cheaper.

Bottle @ OL i Aarhus. Pours a light - almost neon - yellow. A small white head. Aroma is youghurt, sweetness and a little ’wet dog’. Quite low carbonation - perhaps too low for the flavours. Which are too limited, making the beer feel watery. Some sweetness, maltyness and a slight dose of hops.
