COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed by Huyghe for Jopen (www.jopen.nl). Until 2006 brewed by Van Steenberge. Jopen Adriaan is made as a lighter version of a gruit beer. Gruit is a medieval herbal mixture of which sweet gale is the most characteristic. Brewers used this gruit before hops were introduced. The beer contains 5% alcohol and is also brewed with herbs, but different ones than those used in Koyt. The herbs used in Adriaan contribute in the refreshing taste of Adriaan. The light taste of Adriaan can be compared with Wheat beers (Witbier) as those are made in Belgium and Holland.

Pours a pale golden unclear beer with a good white head. Smells more like a german weizen instead of a belgian white. Bit banana and lemon smell. Taste is boring. Pretty standard belgian white taste. Also some tones of licorice? Good carbo, wstery texture and thin body. Not a bad beer but very average.

Een klassiek witbier. Zeer troebel en lichtblond. Smaak te vergelijken met de meeste witbieren.

Geweldig lekker witbier.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy yellow/white. Aroma with spices and some fruit. Somewhat thin bodied, medium carbonation, refreshing. Some lime, orange, apricot, spices, grain. Nice for a hot summer day, but I personally prefer hops to spices. Not really my style but well done.

Belgian White color, lively carbonation, soapy head. A: again typical Belgian White with fresh grains, dried lemon, some soap, sour lacing, some floral notes. T: fresh grains, some lemon. Wheaty development, some banana notes. Aftertaste is a bit dry. Very close to Hoegaarden.

Draft pour. Pours a hazy yellow with a white head. The aroma is fruity and herbal, and has a nice smoke to it as well. The taste is sweet and a little smoky. Pretty good.

Tasted many years ago in the original Van Steenberge version; hazy peach blonde beer with moussy head and malt sweet and spicy character, some acetaldehyde (green apple) with wheaty sourishness, refreshing, retronasal coriander, dryishly sourish finish. Interesting.
