COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed by Huyghe for Jopen (www.jopen.nl). Until 2006 brewed by Van Steenberge. Jopen Adriaan is made as a lighter version of a gruit beer. Gruit is a medieval herbal mixture of which sweet gale is the most characteristic. Brewers used this gruit before hops were introduced. The beer contains 5% alcohol and is also brewed with herbs, but different ones than those used in Koyt. The herbs used in Adriaan contribute in the refreshing taste of Adriaan. The light taste of Adriaan can be compared with Wheat beers (Witbier) as those are made in Belgium and Holland.

Monstrous diacetyl punch covering a flat, white grapey, mead-like sweetness...Spices roam aloof in this sedentary texture but don’t quite know where to settle...After having loved their Koyt, I’m led to believe that I need to resample this under different conditions...

Floral hops are overwhelmed by huge butterscoth diacetyl aroma. Opaque copper coloured with thin, white fully diminishing head. Very short, sweet caramel flavour. Watery body with an oily texture and high gassy carbonation. Will need to resample as this can’t be right - then again, at least one of us enjoyed it somewhat. Bottle - a disappointing butter-bomb sampled with MartinT and Rastacouere at Spuyten Duyvil (Brooklyn, New York).

Bottle. A golden beer with a big white head. MAlty and perfumed aroma and taste, soapy. Medium body with a soapy finish.

Not a good beer, though the aroma is deacent. The taste disappoint and the after taste is dead boring. Fresh but not much more...

Pours a light copper color with a white head. Aroma is caramel, citrus, and spice. Flavor is caramel, citrus, spice, and a thin watery finish.

Yuck! I liked the Jopen Koyt but didn't like this at all. Misty amber with foamy white head. Nose and taste were potent and unpleasant.

a drain pour. not sure if i got an old bottle or what (very good possibility). it was bland, watery and waaaay too sweet. i got a tiny bit of spice, some rose and lavender like notes, and rock candy sugars. finished thin and again sweet. ugh.

From a ($5.69) 12 oz bottle. Pours ever so slightly cloudy, pale orange. Very little carbonation -- only a few bubbles came to the surface. Smells overwhelmingly of mustard with a background of honey. Taste is tart and honey, lacking any maltiness. Mouthfeel is thin and watery. The beer is almost as flat as water. Tart, spicy lingering aftertaste. Made me downright unhappy. Drain pour.

The aroma is sour like vinegar with honey, rotting fruit, and herbs/spices. The appearance is orange gold with little carbonation. The flavor is like the aroma and very acrid and sour. The palate is watery and oily. Yuck! This has to be one of the worst beers (excluding malt liquor) I have had in awhile and that’s saying a lot.
