COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed by Huyghe for Jopen (www.jopen.nl). Until 2006 brewed by Van Steenberge. Jopen Adriaan is made as a lighter version of a gruit beer. Gruit is a medieval herbal mixture of which sweet gale is the most characteristic. Brewers used this gruit before hops were introduced. The beer contains 5% alcohol and is also brewed with herbs, but different ones than those used in Koyt. The herbs used in Adriaan contribute in the refreshing taste of Adriaan. The light taste of Adriaan can be compared with Wheat beers (Witbier) as those are made in Belgium and Holland.

Spice (cinnamon, pepper) sweet and sour fruit (dogrose jelly). Cloudy yellow, no head. Typical citrussy wit notes with some unusual seasoning on top (ginger, passion fruit, vanilla), dry sourish finish. Lightbodied, amnesic mouthfeel, slight peppery aftertaste. Interresting Beer.

Darker golden colour with good amounts of carbonation. Yeasty and copperish in the nose. Lots of orange peel in the taste. Tingly body. Not that bad ovearall but I just cant see drinking this to easily.

Bottle, snifter. Hazy peach-gold with small particles. Small, frothy white head. Honey, toasted wheat, pepper, cardamom, nutmeg, sweat aromas. Flavor introduces some grapefruit tartness. Lightly sweet, moderately acidic flavor. Lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter finish. Medium body, oily texture, moderate carbonation. Interesting to be sure, just not the best drinking experience. Spices are all muted and the tartness is a bit overpowering.

Small bottle pours a very hazy dull orange color with a small head that disipated quickly. The aroma is spicy and slightly sour. The flavor is somewhat wheaty, a touch quenching, with a real fizzy palate. Overall, this one is real marginal.

duvel tulip glass: this brew reminded me of a very weak and watered down lambic crossed with a wheat. it’s dry and just a little bit sour; this is down in a good way. core flavors are citrus and plant roots. it’s refreshing in the poorest way. not offensive; only alright.

In the bottle from HyVee CB. Pours a hzy gold with dark tiny particles that are heavy and electron dense. Minimal white head. The yeast cake in the bottom was dark, thick and impossible to dislodge, so the appearance might be more wit-like for others if they can coax the yeast off the bottom. Aroma is remarkable and amazing. Apple orchard aroma. Smells of a real barbershop (witch hazel and bay rum). Gooseberries. Caramel. Flavor does not match the wonderful aroma. Thin in body. Lacks a substantial palate. Tartness predominates. Orange and lemon flavors, but fails to deliver the goods promised by its flirtatious aroma.

Milky orange with fine white head. Yeast, wheat, and iced tea like aromas. Light body with a refreshing citrus finish. Vanilla, citrus, grass, light spice and faint banana flavors. Very different, though some what like a belgian wit.

Straw colored, hazy with a small, dense and creamy head. The aroma has sweetness, notes of coriander and wheat. The flavour has sweetness, notes of newly harvested grain, coriander, spices and no bitterness. Nice and completely uncomplicated.
