Aroma: Licorice all over, coffee, caramel, vanilla. Appearance: Slightly ruby, otherwise completely black beer with a slight creamy head. Taste/Palate: Everything mentioned in the aroma, but is really faint. Too watery for me, but it makes the palate good.

Maker: Jopen Brewery, Haarlem, The Netherlands *** Beer: Jopen Extra Stout (bottled, 330ml) *** Style: Dry Stout *** ALC.VOL.: 5.5% *** Colour: Dark brown, barely penetrable, with a big, frothy beige head. *** Nose: Roasted coffee beans, caramel, wee hint of vanilla. *** Texture: Medium body, not watery at all. Moderate carbonation. *** Taste: Roasted malts/strong coffee note at the start. Dry, indeed. Mild licorice in the background. Drier still towards the middle, charcoal-y. espresso finish, with a strong bitter note. Aftertaste is coffee/charcoal. Impressions: No-nonsense dry stout that impresses with its pounding burnt malt/coffee notes. Barely a hint of sweetness. Formidable of its kind

Dark brown to black colored, small to medium beige creamy head. Aroma is not very strong, some chocolate, bits of caramel and roasted malts. Taste is medium- sweet malt, caramel and brown sugar, roasted malt and coffee. Medium coffee bitterness, astringent, dry roasty finish. Overall the chocolate is like the older, not very good chocolates your grandparents have. Light to medium bodied, moderate carbonation. It’s OK but there are lots of better stouts out there...

Pours a very deep brown body with a small beige head of decent life-time and lacing capabilities. Sweet, roasted and strong aroma of chocolate, dark caramel and liquorice. The pretty strong flavour also has fruity elements, and distinct notes of coffee. Light sweet taste with a long-lasting moderate bitter finish. Light and dry on the palate, moderate carbonation. A very nice dry stout.
[33 cl bottle shared with josteirk at Steenbo the Summer House, enjoyed 1.5 years before BB date]
