On keg at Jopenkerk Haarlem - Black body, with creamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, a bit sweet, milky chocolate, leather. Taste begins is quite bitter, with lots of coffee, less chocolate, roasted malts. Bitter on the aftertaste too with good duration. Average carbonation, medium thin body, very dry on the palate. Overall a decent stout. Favourite of the night to this point.

Bottle at home. Nicely deep dark brown beer with a firm beige foamy head. Roasted malts dominate nose and taste, bitter, dark chocolate, mocha, a bit smoky and some vanilla. Dry aftertaste, lingering bitter chocolate. Prickling carbonation and mouthfeel, light body.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with an inch of churned, beige foam.

Smell: Dark malty accents smelling of carob, light chocolate, blackened toast, scorched cream and licorice.

Taste: Toasty, roasty in the fore with some slight carob, less-than-sweet chocolate and very minor licorice. Minimal dark fruitiness. A chary bitterness creeps in at the midpoint. Drying with a persistent dark maltiness which slowly lingers on the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel overall.

Overall: While it wonít knock your socks off with a myriad of complexities, itís amply flavorful and an ease to drink at 5.5% ABV.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2014 0.33L bottle. Pour black with a frothy tan head that lingers. Aromas of chocolate, cream / lactose, roasted malt. Flavor is almost immediately to roasted malt bitterness with little sweetness. Some hints of anice and and coffee, with a subtle malt sweetness at the end. Finishes with a long, dry, bitter linger. Medium-light body with a thin mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Overall, really not a very pleasant stout. Unidimensional roasted malt, and not much else.

Nitro cask @ De Arendsnest. Aroma has toffee typical to English ales. Also some hay and hints of licorice. Flavour has English toffee, licorice and some ashy tones. Smooth and somewhat creamy palate. Feels slightly watery on some sips. Like a light version of Fullerís London Porter.

33cl bottle @ home from Melgerís, Haarlem. Dark brown color, large rocky brownish mostly lasting excellent lacing head. Aroma roasted malt, caramel, dark coffee, dark chocolate, light herbs, light leather. Taste heavy bitterness, hint of salt and umami. Medium to full body, slick texture, soft carbonation, very long lasting roasty bitter finish. Simple and delicious beer, not very unique but I like it.

330ml bottle [as "Hans Klaver", part of the Bekenesserkerk series]. Darkest brown colour with thick, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white to beige head. Dark malty aroma with an odd, somehow perfumed nuttily touch, some green wood. Taste is initially dry dark malty, minimally roasty, later slightly fruity with subtle sweetness, hints of red berries and raisins, a nuttily touch, hazelnut pellicle, green wood; dry finish, slightly prickling carbonation.
