UPDATED: MAR 2, 2007 Tap at ‘t Arendsnest. First of 9 beers sampled last night. This is a very strong stout with an oatmeal taste, at times even brown bread. Very dark and smooth, my 2nd favorite of the evening. Bit bitter, like most Dutch beers. Have also had at home as a bottle, Extra Stout. (bad boy!)

This one is definiatly dark coloured, almost black. Very nice coloured. Roasted and bittersweet malts in the aroma. Quite nice. Flavour has got a very nice roasted malty bitterness in it. A bit sweet too. Very nice.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 skortila (4160) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - SEP 24, 2005
This brew has a strong roasted, coffee malty aroma. Taste is quite bitter especially towards the finish. Slightly sweet, roasted coffee malts, some chocolate. Dry finish. Not a bad brew, but quite one dimensional. Earlier Rating: 12/12/2004 Total Score: 3.5 This brew is a re-brew. It was brewed in 1900 by "Het Scheepje" and "Lans en het Hert". Aroma is malty (roasted, coffee). Black coloured with a lasting, off-white head. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty (roasted). Perhaps some fruits in it. Slightly dry. Quite a decent extra stout.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 dortmunder (961) - Herdecke, GERMANY - JUL 17, 2005
Bottled. Reddish black colour. Medium, off-white head. Roastmalty, chocolatey aroma with hints of coffee. Tastes rather dry, roastmalty and coffeish. Lightly bitter and chocolatey finish. Decent, but average stout. Thanks to bierkoning for this.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 maupie (908) - Roosendaal, NETHERLANDS - MAY 12, 2005
This beer has a black body - hue apperance and a coarse light brown scum collar. I have drunk the beer from the bottle and it had not much carbonic acid. The initial flavor taste is bitter with a water afther tast.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Hunsell (400) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - MAY 2, 2005
On tap @ KBC-Festival in Den Bosch, Netherland. ALmost black coloured beer. Very sweet aroma with caramel and roasted notes but way less sweet in the taste. Chalky, bitter finish but too thin on the palate.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JorisPPattyn (6747) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAY 2, 2005
Draught Fully black; rosy-brown small but stable head. Schwarzwald torte, liquorice, German cookies, very sweet nose, say. Much better taste, ends still sweet however. Jorrit says "cray" and he isn’t far off the mark. Roasted malts. Full bodied, quite slick, texture loaded by the sweetness. OK, but sweet stout. I wonder why V.S. don’t make something like this for themselves (let’s not start about Wilson syrup).
