I will freely admit that reading Dutch and hearing the Dutch speak are two very different things for me. This beer on the other hand, is everything that I expected and enjoy. As Rob told me after, this top fermented ale is disguised as a lager thru the unfiltery-ness.It was on the chalkboard as an "unfiltered pilsener. And I do love me some pils. It fooled me, and I don’t care. I could drink this all day in various weather conditions. (It was raining hard at the time) Imagine that, rain in December in Amsterdam... Mellow smooth with just a hint of butterscotch in second half. hazy as expected. Head lasted to finish. Thus began my love affair with Jopen.

On keg and first one of the Jopenkerk Half-Marathon - Looks like a pilsener; clear golden pour with a good white head. Mostly hops in the aroma. Also some hints of fruits and malts. Tastes like a watered down IPA with mostly hops. Not bad. Nice session beer and a nice easy start.

Bottle from Mitra Bunnik, BB Febr 2015, large sample, served in a tulip glass. Slight hazy golden color, large fine slight off-white head, leaving a thick lacing. Aroma of spicy noble hop, slight grassy, slight spicy yeast, grainy malt. Soft bitter taste, again spicy and grassy noble hops, slight sweet malt, slight bready. Soft to medium carbonation, medium body. Almost a keller/landbier. Wonderful beer.

Bottle at home. Pours hazy, golden/grayish with a white head. Aroma of hops and spices, bread, yeast. Taste is floral hops, yeast, wheat/grain. Strange, but nice.

Light golden colour with a medium white head. Grainy taste combined with a light herbal note. It has the typical Jopen bitterness to it, slightly dry. Pretty nice beer, a Jopen Standard.

helder oranje, witte kraag aroma is vreemd kruidig, hop, zoetig, maar redelijk uniek aroma, ook iets van kaas. smaken zijn lichte caramel, vreemde kruiden, hop, citrus, graan, kalk, kaas, tropisch fruit. lage co2, lichte body, iets droog.

Golden to orange in colour with a film of cream coloured head atop the beer. The main driver behind the aroma is significant malt with little else behind it. This would be a little staid if it wasn’t for the fact that the biscuity orange-cream wasn’t such a stand alone highlight. It has all the promise of a toffee apple at a fair, or the delicious anticipation of a sweety wrapped in foil from when I was a child. The body is mild before a good surge of aged hoppy bitterness that takes the orange citrus along with it hand in hand. The end is tangy and endearing and reminds you that there is so much more to this beer than meets the eye.

Bottle 30cl. Clear pale golden, one finger creamy white head, good retention and lacing; grainy nose, bread, yeast, dough, citrus, herbal hops; slightly sweet at first followed by dry bitterness; light to medium body, oily to watery texture, average carbonation; fresh dry bitter finish. Very nice Kölsch-style beer.
