COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Until the end of 2008 brewed by Huyghe. Until 2006 brewed by Van Steenberge. Jopen Hoppenbier is a double hopped three grains beer. This blond beer contains 6.8% alcohol and is replicated from the city recipe of 1501. Jopen Hoppenbier is a refreshing beer with a light malty start and a long bitter aftertaste. It has been brewed since 1994 from barleymalt, (unmalted) oats, wheatmalt and Saaz and Brewers Gold hops.

What’s in a name. Hoppig bier met een bitter. Goede bubbel. maar mag van mij wat minder zoet... Zoals ik mijn vrouwen ook graag heb.

One of those beers commissioned by the Dutch Jopen but brewed in Belgium; a blonde beer which in a way anticipated the current influence of IPAs and other extra hoppy beers. Fruity, citrussy, long dry taste of dry-hopping but otherwise not too exciting.

The best of this beer is the empty glass after finishing it, which reveals a sweet herbal aroma. But it does not reflect the taste. For me it is too much one dimensional bitterness.

A little too bitter Belgian inspired ale. Feels light prune-like and strong.

330ml bottle, leftovers from Clutch tour. Pours golden yellow, big foamy head. Perfectly nice blond, not too flavoursome or hoppy and not getting as much bitterness as I was warned. Soft creamy texture, lightly sweet, and refreshing.

30cl bottle @ home from Melger’s, Haarlem. Slightly hazy golden yellow color, big creamy white head, goo lacing. Aroma fresh fruits, apple, caramel, quite hoppy. Taste light to medium sweetness, medium hoppy bitterness, slightly acidic. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation, quite long bitter finish. Refreshing, good, simple, easy beer.

Nice appearance, very good aroma’s: sweet and a bit herbal. The taste adds a nice bitter touch. Fresh beer, easy to drink. Would certainly reccommend it!
