3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Bottle, Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 26 July 2013) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of oak wood, dark chocolate, soy sauce, liquorice and a slight sourness (probably from tannin in the new oak wood). Malty, roasted taste with espresso, black rye bread, dark chocolate, oak wood and a certain roasty bitterness. The tannin doesn’t come through as much on the palate. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Quite complex and tasty. Very nice.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a deep mahogany colour with a bubbly tan head. The aroma is of roasted malts with some rich alcohol liqourice. The flavour is strong bitter with lots of roasted malt and liqourice on the slightly watery, but refreshing, palate. It’s a nice beer, however, the alcohol inspired liqourice is starting to dominate and I don’t consider that to be a positive thing.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
330 ml bottle, poured into a snifter. Bottle 1144/2850. ABV 9%
Black colour on the body, with half a finger of brown thick head on top.Low retention, no lacing left on the glass.
Chocolate on the aroma, stronger notes of coffee and some alcohol notes
The taste follows the aroma, only now is the chocolate flavour stronger and the coffee’s one becomes more notable on the aftertaste. Lightly bitter. Just a tiny hint of the alcohol.
Quite thick body, good amounts of carbonation.
Nice beer, even better when it starts to warm up a bit.
