COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

(Bottle, Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 26 July 2013) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of oak wood, dark chocolate, soy sauce, liquorice and a slight sourness (probably from tannin in the new oak wood). Malty, roasted taste with espresso, black rye bread, dark chocolate, oak wood and a certain roasty bitterness. The tannin doesn’t come through as much on the palate. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Quite complex and tasty. Very nice.

330ml bottle [#976]. Pitch black colour with small to average, creamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Dark malty aroma with hints of coffee, vanilla, some treacle, a touch of liquorice. Taste is dry dark malty, hints of roast, liquorice, leather; oily texture, sticky palate.

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a deep mahogany colour with a bubbly tan head. The aroma is of roasted malts with some rich alcohol liqourice. The flavour is strong bitter with lots of roasted malt and liqourice on the slightly watery, but refreshing, palate. It’s a nice beer, however, the alcohol inspired liqourice is starting to dominate and I don’t consider that to be a positive thing.
