Bottled, BB 5-3-2014, large sample. Clear copper color, medium creamy brownish head, some debris. Aroma is soft on fruity hops, bit grapefruit, bit citrus, some malt, bit grainy, rye. Medium bitter taste, backed up by caramelly malts. These Rye PAs do a good job in mixing malty and grainy notes of the rye with bitterness of pale ales. Could do with a little more aroma hop, but overall a very nice beer.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, chestnut colour with a tanned thick foamy head. Piney, spicy and subtle fruity hoppy aroma with yeasty notes and a mildly bready cara-malty backbone. Moderately bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Dark, malty, “wheaty” taste with notes of bread, caramel, as well as present hoppy accents; quite dry and moderately bitter finish with piney and spicy hops and caramel in the aftertaste. Likeable. 15.VII.13

I pour from a bottle and get little to no head. The beer is dark amber in color and has a bitter taste. The texture is thin and the liquid quite lively. Not sure if these are the characteristics of rye beer, but it’s definitely not my idea of a premium beer. Apart from the strong aftertaste, It feels like some strong cheap alternatives.

Mooie goudgele kleur. Goed schuim. Smaakt fris tikkeltje hoppig. Lekker fris en fruitig bier.

Pours an orange beer with a good white head. Smells really good. Fruity. Grapefruit. Taste is disappointing. Hoped for more. Low on carbo.

Nice beer with a rye flavor. A good beer to start with. Only 5.3% of alcohol. Bryan

UPDATED: JUL 1, 2013 Maybe it’s the subtle scent of rye that floats from a nice half pint, but Jacobus RPA is a beer that takes me biking through the Dutch country side-- even if the countryside is filled with nothing but canals, cows, and sheep (and no rye). There’s a nice country aroma here. It pours a nice acorn brown color, not too dark, not too light, with a short foamy head. True to its name, this beer tastes of rye, but not aggressively so; just enough. I’d compare it to a nice Sierra Nevada Pale Ale with a rye kick. Overall, this beer kicks ass. It’s totally accessible. Nice to have on a early afternoon but equally pleasant on a late night out. I’ve had it on tap at the Jopenkerk. It goes down smooth every time.
