Very nice taste. Based on an old Dutch recipe. Spiced instead of hopped for a very interesting taste.

Almost reminds me of warm treacle pie. Aroma is indistinct herbs and alcohol. With a short lived foamy head that leaves no lacing. A mild, warming menthol taste, with caramel, treacle, liquorice and indistinct herbs. Very smooth in the mouth. This leaves a warm, herb and menthol aftertaste.

At first I didn’t knew what to expect. The name Koyt Gruitbeer doesn’t ring a single bell. Also the type, traditional ale, didn’t have me a clue about what kind of ever it would be. The beer type made me think of something dark and English, maybe linked to porter or stout in the taste. The beer has a nice look. The color is orange brown, or dark amber. The color is quite nice. The beer pours quite some almond colored soft foam, with a yellowy touch. The bulk of the foam disappears and a thin drape of foam remains on top of the beer. The beet has a nice smell. It reminders me of Petrus Dubbel Bruin, it had the same sourness in the smell and also in the taste. The soreness of the smell is very much present, it is a soreness reminding me of wild yeasted beers. It is not my favorite aroma, but luckily the aroma is balanced out by the other aromas. There is also a bitter roast aroma and a bittersweet aroma of licorice and anise. There is also a clear and distinguished alcohol aroma. The taste is pretty much the same as the smell. It has the same sourness of wild yeast, the smokey roast my bitterness and the bittersweet licorice and anise. The different flavors are in good balance. There is also a nice fruity sweetness in the beer. The beer has a creamy mouth sensation, but there are also some gas bubbles. This gives a special mouth sensation, but I’m not sure I like it that much.

0.33 bottle @ Bier-Bier, Helsinki. Dark brown. Taste is a bit sweet with some herbs. Beers probably tasted like this before brewers started to use hops. I thought I was drinking kuyt, but I guess that remains to be tasted some other time.

Flaske 0,33 cl. Farven er mørk mahogni og skumkronen er beige, tæt og vedholdende. Aromaen er honning og karamel medens smagen er karamel, brød og dadler. En rigtig god vinteraftenøl/juleøl.

Tap at Fairbar. Dark mahogany body with a beige head. Rich fruity aroma with some spices. Spicy and minty flavours. Moderately sweet with very little bitterness. Balanced. Alcohol in the finish. Medium body with average carbonation.

Delft 5-11-2015 (Mitra) Wat een tegenvaller! Valt echt heel erg tegen en is niet mijn smaak. Kastanjebruine kleur met normale schuimkraag. Smaakt wat zurig naar rozijnen en is licht bitter.
