Brewed by Proef for Jopen (www.jopen.nl). Until 2006 brewed by Van Steenberge. Koyt is a dark beer with 8,5% alcohol and a warming herbal taste. The reddish-brown Koyt is the strong version of the old gruit beer.

300ml bottle at Old Nickel. Unclear, brown coloured body, fair tan-coloured head. Spotty lacing. Sweet fruity nose joined by herbs and spices. Flavoured with plums, raisin, dough and caramel. Herbal hops to the ending with integrated alcohol. Fine bodied. Nice (Amsterdam 21.07.2014).

UPDATED: APR 9, 2015 From the tap at Jopenkerk. small foamy head. Lots of kardamom flabours. Smells like candy and ahorn cyrup. Tastes of chocolate, lots of malts, liquorish and apple cyrup. 2nd time half a year later from the bottle. Smells like sweet champagne, alcohol and sugar. Very sweet. Not my thing.

Bottle. Really enjoyed this. Hit of lavender-like aroma at first. Handsome pour: clean deep amber, almost mahogany. Touches of liquorice in flavour, and a somewhat menthol-like quality about it.

A dark red, brown bear with a creamy tan head. Sweet on the nose and the taste, licorice, cough syrup. Quite different then I expected, I had a Witte Klavervier Kuyt and this is very different, are they really the same style?

33cl bottle from Secret Santa 2013/14. Dark mahogany with a beige head. Fairly prominent pit fruit with a nice malt presence, some yeast and alcohol, bready moderate+ carbonation, moderate body, becomes a bit dry, more alcohol on the finish, decent.

Herbs, Herbs and Herbs is what makes this beer. It’s a dark brown coloured beer with a thin head and medium carbonation. It lacks the typical Jopen taste (wich is nice to not have in at least one of their beers). The herbal taste makes this beer comparible to lets say a Jägermeister or a (as we call it in holland) Kruidenbitter and even (dare I say it) cough syrop. Served on the right temperature this gives a really nice beer to enjoy after a meal. One of my favorite Jopen Beers.
