Bottle from Biernavigatie, @ home. Dark brown colour, creamy head. Sweet aroma with hints of caramel and lots of vanilla and bourbon. Light citrus taste from the hops. A bit too sweet, Ongelovige Thomas is better.

Delicious beer! Lots of caramel and vanilla in the aroma, head is gone pretty quickly though. Completely transforms the basis (ongelovige Thomas), but what a wonderful transformation!

33cl bottle Appearance: red Brown with a beige creamy head. Good retention, leaves a light retention Aroma: Confit Fruit, wood, vanilla bourbon notes. Taste: Sweet, boozy bourbon vanilla wood with red fruit, lots of caramelised malts. Sweet Fruity finish with wooden tones. full body, soft- medium carbonation. Typical Jopen Quad/barley wine. So the typical sweetness however in this one they nail it, just going up to huge sweetness, but just avoiding the point were it becomes artifical.

Bottle, 2013 (10%). Very slightly hazy red-brown pour with off white head. Aroma is really nice, sweet, boozy, really vanilla bourbon notes, cherries. Taste is sweet, boozy, nice alcohol warmth, very bourbony. Palate is heavy, medium carbonation. Quite a tasty sipper, rich and boozy but what do you expect, it’s a barrel aged quad. Enjoyed it quite a bit.

Bottle from the Bier Koning, Amsterdam. 2012 version. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is resin, liqourice and alcohol. The flavour is strong bitter with a big alcoholic liqourice bitter, malt, light fruit, light hop palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. A super heart warming, flavour-packed beer, dominated by the dark malts and alcoholic bitterness, but it doesn’t take over.

Kruistocht van Thomas, bottle 330 ml at home. Into a snifter, ABV 10% Deep red brown colour on the body with ruby shades. One finger of beige head, good density and good retention. It keaves a thin line of lacing around the glass and some foam islands on the surface. Aroma is very complex, notes of caramel, red fruits, light alcohol, old wood, vanilla, even some bourbon, and port wine. Taste is also a big blend of flavours, more intense bourbon notes now, wood, vanilla and red stewed fruits, caramel, alcohol notable just enough to intensify the flavours and then only as a warming feeling on the body. Medium thick body, soft carbonation. Great beer.
