Malle Babbe is a dark blond Weizen brewed with Saphyr hops as whirlpool hops. The beer should have banana and citrus flavours.

Bottle. Amber color, cloudy. Banana and toffee in the aroma. Banana, caramel and candied citrusfruit in the flavor. Sweetish. Some soft grassy notes. OK dunkel weizen.

On tap at Ledig Erf, Utrecht, Netherlands, Saturday 29th September 2012 Pours a hazy light orange with white head, nice beery nose, taste is sweet initially but with a yeast and spiciness. Good but a little simplistic. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov12 3.1

Draught @ Biermatinee Oisterwijk 2012. Hazy almost opaque orange color, medium sized creamy white head, good lacing. Smell is flat, some sweetish malts. Taste malts, lightly sweet. A bit flat, not really nice imo.

Medium offwhite head. Hazy deep yellow body. Mealy papery fruity aroma with caramelly notes. Dry-sweet, and faintly acidic, fruity mealy papery taste with oily caramelly notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish oily fruity banana aftertaste with chalky metallic notes. Not very impressive. (0.33l bottle from de Kaaskamer, Amsterdam.)

(Draught at Jopenkerk, Haarlem, 27 Feb 2014) Hazy golden colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, wheaty nose with bread, banana and hay. Malty, wheaty taste with notes of bread, banana, a touch of toast and hints of clove. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Well made weizen, with nothing extra. Enjoyable.

Bottle, year old. Slightly hazy orange brown color, thick off-white head. Aroma of toasted malt and some caramel. Some wheat. Soft sourish fruity hint, which I think is from the Saphyr hops. I got the same sourish fruit in some Saphyr pale ales. It lacks the banana, but it didn’t have any banana when I drank it fresh from tap last year either. Taste is of wheat, caramel and cookie. Soft bitterness, only a hint of sweetness, which is usually the other way around in a weizen. On the other hand, finish is more sweet, slight thin. It’s actually better than the time I had it from tap.

Bottle from Bierkoning. Amber brown body with medium head. Nose is sweet, caramel, oaky. Taste a bit sour, a bit malty, toasty. Some bananas and fruits in there as well. But whole beer kind of uneventful, flat.
