In honor of Saint Martin, Jopen annually brews a masterpiece. Saint Martin was the saint of the brewers guild of Harlem. In earlier times artist and craftsmen had to undergo a test of skill. This masterpiece of 2012 is a limited edition. This year we chose a Rye Russian Imperial Stout of 10% for our beer. This thick black beer is full and strong in flavor because of the combination of roasted rye malt and various American hops.

Riktigt bra.

At a tasting, many thanks MrHangover, smallish creamy head, cloudy dark brown color, aroma of berries and dried fruits, with some light roasted notes, flavor of dark bread, biscuit, vanila and wood, quite dry. Interesting but not exactly an impy.

Bottle sample at a tasting at avrashi’s place. Thanks tomer. Cloudy brown with small beige head. Very sweet aroma with notes of licorice and milk chocolate, fruity. Very sweet flavor with notes of milk chocolate and licorice, light hoppy bitterness, fruity and very boozy. Soft carbonation, medium to full-bodied. Feels like a Barley wine or American strong ale.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks tomer. Brown with red hues and small yellow-beige head. Smell of dried fruits, licorice, toffee and chocolate. Sweet with flavors of caramel, prunes, raisins, chocolate and alcohol, light-medium bitterness. Medium-bodied, stocky on palate. Interesting flavors though not typical for RIS.

Bottle... Dark brown ale with a small, creamy, taupe head. Great retention. The nose is a delightful marriage of fudge and tangy, dark berries. Full-bodied and lightly creamy with gentle carbonation. The flavor offers 85% cacao chocolate, charcoal and nuttiness. Burnt, bittersweet finish. Kudos to MrHangover for shipping this terrific brew across the pond!

Bottled@SBWF2014. And so as I was standing by AST Wines when meeting the man bolagshataren, I decided to have a go at this one, which has been around for a year or two on the festival, but which my sharing buddies have usually already rated. The beer pours a very dark brown, close to black fluid, which produced a nice mediumsized creamy brown head, which also leaves some lace. Aroma is was raisins, some plummy notes along with mild rye bread and toasted notes. Quite mellowly, but still strong at the same time. Flavour is liquorice, some alcohol, sweet raisins, mild yeastiness as well as some toffee and spices. A quite tasty and balanced brew, occasionally Jopen does get things right as well. And probably the aging had mellowed this one out a bit too.

330 ml bottle from beernavigator.com. Dark brown color, thick light brown head. Aromas of wine, dark cherries, some roasted notes. Taste is really sweet, dark cherries, grapes, alcohol, some chocolate notes, like a liquer actually. Medium body with ledium carbonation.
