COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In honor of Saint Martin, Jopen annually brews a masterpiece. Saint Martin was the saint of the brewers guild of Harlem. In earlier times artist and craftsmen had to undergo a test of skill. This masterpiece of 2012 is a limited edition. This year we chose a Rye Russian Imperial Stout of 10% for our beer. This thick black beer is full and strong in flavor because of the combination of roasted rye malt and various American hops.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2013 Always the highlight of the year when Jopen brews their "Meesterstuk", a glorious rye imperial stout. Very robust, full of complexity and taste it is not a sweet as many imperial stouts are, but with a herby bitter finish. It is a sipper, weighing in at 10% like a Rochefort, but better!

2 year old bottle. Dark black with a red tint and a lasting, sticky, lacy, frothy head. Lovely balanced smell of dark fruit, malt, roast, coffee and chocolate. Medium oily body. Dry. Tastes of roast, dark chocolate, and a ashy finish. For 10% itís smooth and super easy to drink. A fantastic stout that holds no apologies to anyone.

Dark brown, almost black. Thick, off white head. Medium body with a sweet, chocolately, brown sugary flavor. A bit of licorice in the aroma. Tried with Jess at the Jopenkerk in 2012

Got this from íKerstbierfesivalí (Christmabeerfestival) in Essen Belgium. This is for me between a Stout and a Dubble Abbey beer. There is this though Stout quality, but itís also very easy drinkable. Hits of chocolate en roast. Just a very good beer !

330 ml bottle from De Bierkoning @ Amsterdam. Good beer to finish the month of March. Pours dark brown with a small beige head, leaving nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is fruity, molasses, sweet caramel candy and some refreshing hops. First sip is totally satisfying. It has a small bite of alcohol, molasses, caramelized brown sugar, dark dried plums, fruity roasted flavour and everything finding culmination in a dry, roast hop bitterness.

Bottle: Very big tan lively head that disappears pretty quick and leaves a medium vast tan head. The beer has a dark brown pour and leaves an almost black beer in the glass. The smell is a mix of fresh hops, toasted/roasted malts and barleys, something light flowery, cotton candy and hints of roasted wood, light light liquorice and something light yeasty. The smell of roasted malts is actually very pleasant! Taste is strong and bitter yet soft. A mix of roasted malts, slightly burned wood and barleys, good firm bitterness that keeps growing, some herbs like grass, light coffee, spicy, slight hint of liquorice and something like dark and bitter fruit, but just a hint. Good bitter, roasted bitter, light grassy aftertaste. Low carbo, soft mouthfeel with a spicy touch, full body and a light creamy texture. Guess itís as decent as last years. Waiting for the BA version... Hehe... Most likely this is Jopensí meesterstuk, since itís style of this beer is one of my favorite styles.

Best beer Jopen has made so far, awesome complex aroma, roasted malts, sick peaty hops, fruity hops, barley? rye? smoke! Balanced taste, bitter! light tones of sweetness shining trough... long dark bitter hoppy warming finish...
