Tasting glass draft @ AC/CB. People at the stand described this one as a Barley Wine. Dark ruby brown, small creamy brown head. Very strange brew, smell is paint thinner, chemical, malty, brown sugar, sweet. Taste of paint thinner, caramel, sticky brown sugar, boozy, plastic, toffee,… Thick pain thinner body, malty. Odd beer, enjoyable somewhat but quite strange never the less but far from best in style.

Fris aroma met weinig karakter. Zeepachtige schuimkraag die lang blijft. Mooi mistig donker bier, met een bittere binnenkomst. Bitterheid blijft mooi in balans. Lichte zoete fruitige smaak met bitterheid als boventoon.

Bottle... Pours clear and Longhorn-orange with a small, creamy, white head. Dates and honey are the aromatic highlights here. Full-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and modest carbonation. This brew is bitter and also offers a lot of honey flavor without the usual, accompanying sweetness. Finishes bitter. Interesting. Bottle shipped from Denmark by Plovmand!

On keg at Jopenkerk Haarlem - Very dark body pour with a small ring of white foam. Aroma of plums, raisins, brown sugar, a hint of molasses as well. Taste is sweet, lots of brown sugar, molasses, just a hint of roasted malt which is quite welcome. Very nice mild alcohol presence that gives just enough of a warming palate. Very tasty and best of the night.

Advertized as an ’imperial quadrupel’ but with the term ’imperial’ being used for anything bigger than average nowadays, that in itself doesn’t impress me anymore. The beer itself, however, kind of does: a beauty with a deep bronze colour adorned with a light beige creamy head with relatively good retention, a rich and complex, inviting aroma of coffee, chocolate, leafy and citrussy hops, lemon peel, pear, tannins and candi sugar, a thick, full, rich malty taste adorned with spicy and hoppy flavours and a long, dry finish with warming, agreeable alcohol. Very nice winter warmer.

Bottle 33cl. Dark brown, almost black with a light sticky top. The Jopen bitterness is in the aftertaste. The taste is complex with chocolate and caramel. Great beer!

TrefwoordPunk (816) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - JUN 20, 2014
Bottle 33 cl. Pours a dark brown with a medium off-white head and an aroma of roasted malts, caramel, overripe fruits, herbs, sweet spices and some syrup. The taste is medium sweet, with medium bitterness and some roastiness and slight boozyness. medium long mediumbitter finish. Nice and really drinkable, but nothing too special.
