Until 2008 brewed by Huyghe. Until 2006 brewed by Van Steenberge. Jopen 4 Grains Bokbeer is made as a ruby red beer made with the three traditional Haarlem grain and rye as a forth grain. The beer contains 6,5% alcohol and has a fruity aroma combined with the dark malts. The taste is lightly smoky from the dark malts used, but there is some sweetness in it to.

Flesje jopen bockbier.

From a bottle from the supermercato. From the bottle comes a mud, Amber colored beer with a big foam head. Taste of chocolate, caramel en coffee. All in all its not too expressive but a nice bok.

This beer pours a hazy, light-brown body and half an inch of tan head that settles to a patchy sheet. The nose is fully malty, with caramel, dried fruit, brown sugar, molasses, and toffee. On the palate, it’s noticeably smoky and shows plenty of dried fruit flavor, and these are nice offsets for the otherwise sweet, caramely, toasty, and toffee-like malt character. The beer is medium-plus in weight, medium in carbonation, and though not dry on the palate, it’s not sugary, cloying, or heavy either. Overall, although this may have aged longer than desired, it’s very tasty and enjoyable.

Drank with Kaspar at Cafe Jos 16-10-2014. Has a nice bok taste, but the taste is not very expressive. Boring beer, slightly disappointing.

Zoals een bok bier in mijn ogen hoort te zijn. Licht bitter met karamel in de afdronk.

Nice warming bock. Looks hazy brown with a beige head. The smell is strangely a bit like a baby diaper at first but that goes away. It’s a nice characterful bock with good flavor of burned malts, some pleasant smokiness, cacao and caramel. Flavor fades fast. It Would be nicer if it lingered a bit longer.Still an enjoyable season brew.

Bottle. Dark dark color, almost black. Light foam. Very robust aromas: tar, rye, baked pecan nuts, slight charcoal aroma, canned mushrooms, mud, dark chocolate. Taste is quite bitter, tar and rye return. Smokey mouth feel. Sweetness slowly develops in the aftertaste, hint of panfried banana, overripe pear.

Bottle 30cl. Dark brown with a small white head. Not too much aromas, some coffee. Taste is flat, little bouquet. No difference in taste and aftertaste. Even the typical Jopen bitterness of their hops is missing. Was better in my memory.

On tap at Café Kalkhoven Amsterdam, september 28th 2014. Red tinted mahogny body with foamy beige head. Aroma of burned malt, caramel, cocoa. Taste is malty, sweet, dark sugar, mild smoke, plums, grainy finish with raisins, mild alcoholic finish. Enjoyable.
