COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Witte Rook" is onze gerookte blonde Weizenbock.

Frothy head over a hay coloured opaque beer without carbonation. Smoked ham, bbq smell. Salty, ash, smoke taste mixed with Belgian triple sweetness.. hints of cherries even. Fruitiness, peaches? Brilliant. A surprising on-the-edge, schizophrenic fusion of rauchbeer and Belgian classic triple. Not a beer you want everyday but an artwork you need to put effort in to explore when you’re in the mood.

Slightly hazy light brown colour, white head. Aroma of smoke, malts, light honey, dried meat and apricot. Malty flavour, ash, smoked wheat, smoke, the kind you find in smoked ham cheese potato chips (hamka’s). Lots of carbo. Light sour finish, wheat, banana, sweet touches, light smoke, lingering ash.

Bottle: Medium sized bit airy but vast white creamy head on top of a hazy orange colored beer. Aromas of smoke, leather, malts, peach, apricot, some sweets, tobacco, hint of red fruit, plants, sweat... Flavours of wheat, weak malts, some smoke, sweat, creamy, yeast, some light smoked branches and malts, hint of bananas, (old dried) peach, herbs and floral hints. Aftertaste is a mix of weak malts and hops, some yeast, light bitter and some floral hints.. Low to medium carbo, creamy foamy mouthfeel, medium body and a creamy texture. Aroma is ok, taste is weak and unbalanced.

Tastes exactly like you’d expect: a smoked weizen. Creamy and a nice smokey flavor. I could drink this on a warm day, but it’s no winner.

Bottle. Brewed with Hallertau Mittelfrue, interesting. Same like the saphyr they brew with. Are they doing those de Molen-like typo’s on purpose? Hazy golden color, medium slight off-white head. Aroma of soft dry smoke, banana, hint of clove, some fruity hop. Nice combination of beechwood smoke and weizen. Quite dry in taste with again some dry smokeyness and banana. Finishes with the dry woody smoke. Could have used a little more sweetness/body, instead it finishes on the dry side. Overall the intensity of the smoke is medium and the smoke is more woody than bacon or peat-like, which I think is the best fit for a weizen-like style. Good beer.
