COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 2008, Joseph James Brewing Company was founded on the belief that there is a beer for every palate and beer should be shared and enjoyed. In celebration of our 5th anniversary, we have brewed a unique Scottish-style Wee Heavy beer that starts with 1/3 of the grist smoked over Bourbon barrel oak staves from our last barrel release. With two mashes and a 10 hour boil this beer is complex in flavor and has a strong alcohol finish. To complete the circle, this beer it was aged in Bourbon barrels for 6 months, providing the beer with an oaky bourbon finish.

Definitely over the top with the sweetness and abv. Sticky sweet feel, even with the smoke cutting through a bit. Loads of malt and dark fruit. Might have been really really nice at around 10%

22 ounce bottle poured into a mini snifter. Pours a clear brown with a khaki colored head of foam. Say sweet, oats, toffee, and anise come through in the aroma. Taste is mildly bitter with some oak qualities. Thick mouthfeel. Low carbonation.

Pours a dark molasses brown color with a very quickly dissipating caramel-colored head. An absolutely scrumptious, rich caramel, vanilla, and chocolate nose. Creamy, heavy mouthfeel. Quite a bit of alcohol heat. Large flavors of creamy caramel and chocolate. Alcohol invades, but not in a way that adversely affects the lovely flavor. This is wonderful.

22-oz. bottle. Sweet and boozy whiskey dominates the nose with some vanilla, toasted oak, a hint of raisins, and a thin malty backbone. An extremely dark burgundy pour with a parchment-colored ring head. Very sweet taste of caramel, toffee, hot bourbon, vanilla bean, figs, a heavy tone of charred barley, and a whisper of smoke and hops. Sticky texture with a sweet and dry finish. Pretty solid, but any smokiness is barely detectable and it drinks more like a barley wine than a wee heavy.

Bottle thanks to Eric. Pours a dark cloudy brown with small beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is raisin chocolate and nuts. Medium mouthfeel with light smoke and good barrel character. Very good.

Itís smells like bourbon meeting malt! That sweet malty aroma, laced with that oaky bourbon smell, beautiful dark brown color! The taste, are you kidding me? Chocolate, coffee, malt, roasted beans, a little nut taste, boozey, bourbon...after the swallow it is so smooth but then you feel the heat of that 14% ABV, This is a keeper! Iím glad I got two bottles, will love to see how this tastes aged a few months.

Draft. Cloudy dark brown color, small beige edge head. Aroma of toffee, butterscotch, figs. Taste is sticky dates, figs, prunes in caramel and buttetscotch sauce. Nice body. Delicious. Color change, Nevada.

Dark brown with no head. Caramel, oak, and red fruits are pleasant to smell and drink. Good body and sweet malt with a great finish.

Glittery silver waxed 22oz bomber pours with a deep dark ruby red body with infra red edges and supporting a quickly dissipating tan head. The aroma offers up malt sweet bourbon booze rolling into molasses, boozy heat, prunes, blueberries and cherries. The taste is rich and nearly creamy on the mouth allowing for a smooth and yummy sipping experience. It has sweet smooth thick malts and some molasses running into a nice level of kettle caramelization, dark roasted malts and then prune to blueberry to cherry sweet dark fruity esters. Just then firm bourbon booze notes surface as well as a slightly harsh boozy edge to the whole thing. It gets into faint smokiness minutes into the after taste. This is one smooth rich sipper with a firm bite and firm boozeiness too. I was ready for it and enjoyed the ride. Well done.

22, capped and waxed. Pours a murky dark brown with a scant thin tan head that falls quickly to nothing. Sharp boozy nose, definite ethanol showing, along with isopropyl notes and some hot vodka twang, even when fresh from the fridge. Hot hot hot. Smoky caramel, peat, and some bourbon behind those. Sticky thick flat body. Heavy, sticky, and raw mid palate. Charred oak, charred malt, darkly cauterized caramel. Hot bitey vodka twang on the mid palate. Long dry aerosol boozy air finish. They put a lot of time and effort into this one, with a big recipe and lots of treatments, plus a fancy label and wax and all, and they dubbed it an anniversary release. These guys do some nice stuff, so this is a real shame to see. Totally overdone "extreme" beer thatís far past anything it couldíve been if they dialed it back at a few different points. Thick, raw, and unpleasant.
