Bottle, presented as a kind of Lazarus-like miracle by our server at Aces & Ales in Vegas! After a super fun night of wicked beers and laughs, she brought out one of only three bottles they had left in the back and cracked it for us! So nice! I say Lazarus-like because the staff thought they had gone through all of their bottles, then found three more in a case somewhere. Bottle #38/120. Dark brown with a scant beige head. Lovely aroma of chocolate and treacle with assertive oaky character. The aroma translates directly to the palate, with terrific balance and velvety smoothness. Interesting light sour note in the finish. The oak and bourbon never overpower the base beer, and somehow this little number doesn’t come across as too sweet even though it should. Just excellent, and made even better by the outstanding hospitality!

This is from years ago. Bottle pours a little hot from the barrel aging. Once settled down, dark malts add a nice roasted coffee flavor. Some cherry and vanilla from the oak. Burnt finish more reminiscent of a stout. A delightful beer.

Black color, medium sized head. Moderate aroma of roasted malt and bourbon. Good chocolate flavor, almost no roasted malts, with light residual sweetness, and the barrel adds a nice vanilla touch, but it’s not oppressive, and a light alcohol feeling.
Well balanced.
