Solid BBA stout, although there are better. What I like the most about this one is that the barreling didnít result in crazy bourbon taste, which seems to be a recurring problem. Itís still a bit more bourbony than Iíd like, but ats a personal preference.

Bottle at the Pant-y Raid NYE Tasting (Chicago, IL). Pours a richly deep inky black hue, firmer legs, some brownish ruby glow on the edges. Frothy tannish brown head dies to a smaller ring, laces small overall. Aromas are cocoa, toffee, some wet paper and roasty malts. Biscuits, toffee and toast. Some gentle oak, vanilla, mellow warmth. Touches of oxidation, gentle warmth. A bit old perhaps but still holding on. Initial is firmer bodied, caramel, some soy sauce, firmer roast and toast. Some toffee, barrel and warmth, gentle whiskey warmth kiss, ABV and spirit. Some cocoa, a bit thinner and warm. Middle is toasty, roasty and gentle kisses of spirit, toffee and cocoa. Some toast, touch of soy sauce and oak. Backend is a bit warm, toasty and dry, a bit of spirit, faint dark fruit waft. A bit older with some toffee, cocoa, gentle coffee roast and spirit kiss. Some toffee, carmelized and roasty elements. Solid, a bit oxidized but not a bad beer.

Bomber to snifter. A pleasant brew based on past experiences with the regular red fox. Lots of bourbon sweetness but nicely balanced. Lower octane for the style so very pleasant drinking.

Pours black with a tan head. Smell is amazing oaky vanilla. Big barrel character and a bit of fruit. Taste is sweet smooth oaky vanilla. Lots of roast without bitter ash. Smooth and easy drinking. This is very well done.

Bottle:   Black, deep cola hued edges, thin tannish head, little lacing.   Charred wood, campfire, bourbon, graham cracker, soft coconut, and stale vanilla on the nose.   Smells decent enough.   Rich roasted malts up front, warming alcohol, bourbon, campfire, with some graham cracker in the finish.   A little astringent, but only after the finish.   Needs a bit more body, or at least wished it were a bit more chewy.   Lots of graham cracker and charred wood with this one.   Decent amount of bourbon character.   A nice sipper, just wished it were a touch smoother.   Better than I thought tho!
