3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a rich deep burnt umber with a two finger dark mocha foam head. The nose is chewy rich boozy chocolate, nice bourbon character a touch of coconut cream and brownies. The palate follows the nose with a sweet chewy mouthfeel and a nicely balanced bourbon character thats dialed in nicely. Long lingering finish... Thanks MikeM !

Bottle waxed topped. Nose is dark fruit and Bready. Very sweet attack, not much espresso or roast. A bit thin for the style. Okay beer. Not a great imperial stout.

22, capped and waxed. Pours jet black with a dense and creamy dark tan mousse that fades quickly to a thin rim with lots of drippy lace. Big candy sweet dark chocolate nose, with vanilla and oak kicking around...too candy sweet. Thick creamy body. Sluggish carb. Heavy dark chocolate candy bar mid palate, with bourbon, oak, and vanilla candying around as well. Too sweet and goopy, tastes almost like it has processed sugar in it. Appealing but overdone. Dialed back and balanced up, this one would score a bit higher.

I was expecting this to be a big disappointment, but itís really pretty tasty.
Thick body, and an aroma of rum, red wine, and bourbon-tinged malted milk balls.
Taste is similar with the addition of some toasted coconut,, and hint of rum soaked raisins.
Not very complex, but there are no off-putting flavors, right through the finish.
Too pricey for the simplicity, but quite pleasant and warming on this raw, rainy day.

Pours a dark black. Barrel spirits waft out of the glass. The taste is a bit too sugary to the point of maple bourbon tasting.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance was clear jet black with lasting tan creamy 1 finger head, spotty lacing. Aromas are chocolate malts with slight vanilla and hints of oak casks bourbon shinning through, mild alcohol nose. Taste was chocolate, vanilla, oak, bourbon, slight alcohol burn. Palate was soft creamy CO2 with full-meduim body, soft lasting smooth malty and medicnial bourbon finish. Weird finish, good bourbon local brew...

Aces and Ales Strong Beer Fest 2012. Pours black with a small khaki foam. Aroma of toffee and chocolate is subdued. No burnt offerings in the aroma. Flavor is very sweet with chocolate and caramel. Oak is the word of the day and it is very noticeable in this beer. Could use some aging. Palate was nice and overall this is a good brew.

Amazing brew. Could definitely tell the difference between other imperial stouts and JJís use of bourbon barrel aging. Very distinctive taste and really sets the bar. Aroma of the bourbon, nice mouthfeel, taste is so amazing, nice and dark with thick head, lots of lacing.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at home, from my comfortable old Maudite glass. Pours thick black, totally opaque, with a generous 3-finger dark tan head, that is quite foamy, though I may not hae rinsed the glass well enough. Not sure there... The head reduces slowly to a highly-persistent skim/ring, though the lacing is nothing to brag about. Nose is toasty and fudgy: a rather restarined use of the Bourbon here is actually rather nice, though the stout beneath doesnít strike me as being the finest stout thatís ever passed my gums. Nonetheless, the bourbon does what itís there for and adds complexity. Some toasty coconut/vanilla notes, and a marked "oak" aromaalong with some light vinous notes, and black chocolate. Flavours are medium to lighter-bodied for an Imperial Stout, toasty and oaky again, bu the flavour doesnít translate to complexity, itís just kinda round and smooth and a bit flat. A session-style BA Impy Stout? No.
