Bottle, shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew and Meilby. Pours a slightly hazy dark orange body with a small white head. Nose is syrup, harsh fat, hints of malty extract-like notes and raisins. Taste is nutty syrupy tones with hints of grass and...not much else, apparently. Medium body, soft carbonation. This might have suffered from trans-Atlantic transport, but I think itís just...weird.

Backlog of ratings. Thanks to someone at one of bu11zeyeís tastings. The smell is sweet, caramel, and hops. The look is cloudy, dark golden in color, and has an off white head. The taste is hops, fruits, bitterness, and sweet.

A vigorous pour into my teku glass produces a two finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a bright, copper color that shows a brilliantly clear, golden copper color. The beer smells of crystal malt and then some supporting hop character. Sweet tea notes, caramelized grain, touches of grapefruit, and some pine like notes.

The beer has a solid bitterness, with a lingering pine and menthol astringency, with an up front grapefruit zest character. The finish also has a toasted whole grain cracker note, some lingering sweet tea leaning crystal malt notes, as well as a caramelized note that adds a bit too much here. The body is a bit on the chewy side for an IPA.

Not really my type of IPA, a bit too malt focused, and the hop character could be a lot more floral and characterful. Wow, I was quite surprised that this was an Imperial IPA, really makes me like it even less.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 5/25/11

Aroma: It has some early grapefruit and floral hops, later its molasses, burnt caramel, and sugar
Appearance: This one pours a muddy brownish-orange looking color with a lasting beige head
Flavor: The flavor is malty, but not particularly sweet, more molasses, with a fairly harshly bitter finish
Palate: The body is medium, it feels slightly sticky with a lingering harsh and poorly constructed finish
Overall Impression: Congrats to me on ticking the state of Nevada for the first time! That leaves me with only 14 states left to go for that arbitrary goal of ticking every state. Iíve had a lot of Double IPAs, and I absolutely love the style, but this was nowhere close to the top. On the other hand, I didnít think it was quite as bad as some others, but it is nearly there.

Bottle courtesy of pikapp327. Pours a very murky ruddy brown with some sediment present. Foamy head that took a bit of coaxing to get a rise. Aroma is very sappy, sticky hops. Lots of resiny notes on this one. Flavor is woody and aged, with bitter hops that leave a dry aftertaste. Lots of exciting flavors with an aftertaste that lingers forever.

12oz can in a tulip. Pours amber with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of floral, lightly citrusy, and lightly fruity hops, plus a little pale and light caramel malts. Flavor the same, but somehow light and tin-like for a beer with such a high alcohol content. Average texture. Not bad but not great.

May 2010: Pint served at Ales and Aces (Las Vegas). The bar is dark but the beer looked a clear amber/orange colour, on top sat an off white thin head that soon became a wisp and collar. Hops and hints of pink grapefruit came across my nose. The hops content killed whatever else might have been in the brew, no malt flavours could I find, some inkling of a citrus presence tried to appear, but got beaten back by the hops, which strangley didnít give the beer a huge bitterness like some hops can (and do). A different beer for me, pleasant, but not a world beater.

12oz bottle given to me by Destral, poured into my Darkness glass...Pours an ugly murky dark orange. Hardly any carbonation at all, no head surfaces except for a few sparse bubbles on the side of the glass...The aroma is super malty tons of caramel and bread, a little pineapple, no hops, a bit of alcohol. Doesnít smell bad, but no balance...The taste is terrible, at first almost devoid of flavor then comes moldy grass, stale hops, and alcohol. This is not a good combination at all. The feel is really light, a weird harsh finish. This is a skip in all regards.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2012 Rerate (seems better than when I originally tasted it), can: Malty nose. Creamy and smooth texture; a bit too sticky for a double IPA. Flavors are OK, with overly sweet notes of caramel, cocoa and toast. Hops are tame. Too tame. Some floral bitterness surfaces in the aftertaste and itís not bad, but it fades fast. Overall, itís just not very balanced (too sweet).
