This Imperial IPA has a large Hop Aroma and sweetness from dark caramel malts. This brew uses Simcoe and Cascade hops and is hopped at 5lbs per barrel. The brew is best enjoyed at 55F.

Can. Pours a slightly hazy copper body with a one finger frothy off-white head that had amazing retention. Tons of sticky clingy lacing. The nose is smelling pretty darn sweet, but thereís also a big burly citrusy and resiny hoppiness that keeps it in balance pretty well. The caramel and crystal malt sweetness seems to indicate that this might be a little too sweet for my tastes. The flavor is actually not all that sweet though, the bitter resiny hops really dominate and scrub away the caramel sweetness. Long, lingering bitter finish with a little bit of an alcohol warmth. Thick and chewy body with soft fizzy carbonation. Decent enough DIPA, but not something that Iíd want to down a six pack of.

12oz can. Here is a pretty shabbily executed IIPA. Burnt oily hop flavor, really kind of vegetal, bad. Attractive enough appeaance, glowing amber-orange with a frothy yet creay just off-white head The aroma is bad, think Minhas IIPA. Soapy and astringent, really has a dominating oily residue. Tweaker IIPA.

Bottle. Well last to rate my own shared bottle, figures. Hazy brune pour with some whitish head. Maybe this was an off bottle or what not but the hops have disintegrated, and are giving a soapy flavor off. Malty finish with some warming.

Super hazy golden coloured body with a thick, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of pineapple, pine, resin and a nice bright hop smell with tons of alcohol and a decent amount of sweetness. Medium-bodied; Strong pine and resinous hop notes with a good pineapple sweetness with a pungent malt backbone and a nice fruity flavour with some good complexity on the finish. Aftertaste is mostly pungent resinous and piney hops, but a good malt backbone, some strong alcohol and a nice smooth complexity. Overall, a nice imperial ipa in a CAN, and according to the rankings, but better than I expected. Iíd easily get this one again if I could find it all over the place. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Tustin, California on 04-August-2012 for US$1.79 sampled at home in Washington on 07-October-2012.

Bomber, thanks to my brother. The body is a medium copper hue with a light khaki head. The nose has some earthy sweat and a bit of pine. Then there is also some grapefruit. The taste is mineral and herbal with grapefruit on the back end. There is a strange slight tartness with some bread crust. This one is definitely off.

May 2010: Pint served at Ales and Aces (Las Vegas). The bar is dark but the beer looked a clear amber/orange colour, on top sat an off white thin head that soon became a wisp and collar. Hops and hints of pink grapefruit came across my nose. The hops content killed whatever else might have been in the brew, no malt flavours could I find, some inkling of a citrus presence tried to appear, but got beaten back by the hops, which strangley didnít give the beer a huge bitterness like some hops can (and do). A different beer for me, pleasant, but not a world beater.

Can thanks to Brian! Pours crystal clear orange with a medium creamy off-white head that dissipates slowly with good lacing. Aroma is pine, spruce, leaves. Flavo rid light sweet, medium bitter, a bit of grapefruit on top of the pine and spruce. Medium body, a bit harsh.

12 oz bottle shared by vtafro for after Maxs party. Pours a hazy deep amber with a dull body and fading off beige head. Aroma is medium toffee and biscuit malts, light burnt hints, old stale cheesy hops, mineral and spice with herbs and tea. Flavor is more dull oxidized malts and hops, cheesy, papery, earth, leather, spice, grassy hops, pepper, paper stale malts, bitter and astringent in the end. Past its prime and messy. Blech.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 5/25/11

Aroma: It has some early grapefruit and floral hops, later its molasses, burnt caramel, and sugar
Appearance: This one pours a muddy brownish-orange looking color with a lasting beige head
Flavor: The flavor is malty, but not particularly sweet, more molasses, with a fairly harshly bitter finish
Palate: The body is medium, it feels slightly sticky with a lingering harsh and poorly constructed finish
Overall Impression: Congrats to me on ticking the state of Nevada for the first time! That leaves me with only 14 states left to go for that arbitrary goal of ticking every state. Iíve had a lot of Double IPAs, and I absolutely love the style, but this was nowhere close to the top. On the other hand, I didnít think it was quite as bad as some others, but it is nearly there.
