3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sampled from a bottle purchased in Las Vegas. Black as pitch with a thick tan head. Aromas are not particularly strong, and the taste is of very charred malts. Flavours of coffee and dark chocolate. Heavy bitterness and strong taste of alcohol. This beer lacks the smooth sweetness of some Imperial Stouts, but is powerful and characterful. I would give it a higher mark if the flavours came together a little better.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tallahassee, Fl - Whole Foods Market - 12 oz bottle. Deep dark, pitch black pour, quickly fading khaki colored head, smalls beads cling to the edge of the glass. Aroma has some rich topsoil earthy notes. a hint of unsweetened chocolate. Flavor is pretty solid with some creosote notes, s touch of licorice, some bittersweet baker’s unsweetened chocolate. Mouthfeel is thick enough, Much better than expected and nice to have just a good ’ol impy stout without is being barrel aged or infused with something.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pitchy pour with a dark tan, quickly collapsing head. Standard longneck, lackluster label. Decent, dark, olivine aroma. On the acidic side, coffee, nutty roast, a bit boozy. Thanks to PorterPounder.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
"the last of the line-up of 5 Joseph James beers we sampled last night. Due to the style, I still held out a little hope, even though the other 4 beers were not worth a darn. Poured like a stout, but not an imperial, in color. Had some chocolate and smoke aspects in the nose and flavor, but way too subtle for a RIS. Not horrible, just not good enough. Average beer. Crappy Russian Imperial."

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle courtesy of IBrew2or3. Cheers, Dave! Pours a dark stout brown with a tan head. Nose is earth, coffee, dark chocolate, and roast. Flavor is roast, dark coffee, dark chocolate, and bitterness. Flavor finishes with bitterness and some roasty chocolate. Medium in body and a nice imp stout overall.

Sometimes you get what you pay for... A RIS (?) bomber for $3... Hey I am glad to know that a Russian Imperial Stout is a dark ale. Bomber bottle served in a snifter. Something is really off about this beer and I am just not talking about the moderate brown hue either... There is a combination soy sauce and funky barnyard tone that I am sure is NOT intended. Really just a weak arse excuse for a stout. A 1973 Pinto in an Aston Martin world — feeling sick.

2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
22 oz bottle. Pours black with a decent tan head. A really funky aroma that was hard for me to get over. A lot of roasted coffee and malt. Finishes a little sweet, but short. Not my favorite.
