Josephsbrau Plznr (pilsner) is a celebration of noble hops from central Europe. This style of beer was developed by German brewmaster Joseph Groll in 1849 in the town of Plzen (Pilsen), Bohemia (modern day Czech Republic) and was the first beer to be brewed golden and clear. This beer’s pin-point fine bitterness is perfectly accentuated by its crisp body.

From a mixed 12 pack from Trader Joes in Davis, CA. The aroma has some light cereal pilsner malts, but also some corny DMS is present. Light floral character, too. Minimal hop character. Transparent yellow body with a smallish, white head present. Starts a little grassy and mildly hoppy. Very faint bitterness is in the middle. Finishes with some floral flavors and a little more grassy bitterness. Fair brew. Not a huge fan of the DMS.

12 oz. bottle from Trader Joe’s. It pours a light gold color with a white head. The aroma has bready malt with light herbal, floral hops. Pretty subdued… definitely malt forward. The flavor is more hoppy with noticeable noble hop bitterness right away and good fat maltiness that you expect from Czech Pils. Pretty full bodied, herbal hops and a balanced malt flavor to sweetness ratio. Decent beer.

I'm not a fan of the style but this is a drinkable beer. Definitely a lawnmower beer. Clear yellow pour. Grass and hay. Well carbonated.

Bottle->pilsner. Clear gold with huge frothy white head. Sweet malt, grains, grass. Very crisp, light, refreshing, though taste is unremarkable

Bottle from Trader Joe’s. Clear pale gold, high foamy head, leaves behind some chunky lacing. Aroma of lemon, noble hops, grass. Sweet cereal maltiness underneath, grass, noble hops, white pepper, corn up front. Crystal clean finish, very crisp and drinkable. A great plznr.

Pilsner glass. Fairly attractive given its a pilsner. Cloudy gold, lots of carbonation, some head. Notes of hay and not much else. Quite tasty, hay, hops and possible bread combine to create a pleasant mixture. The mixture comes alive in your mouth and foams up. A nice alternative to most pilsners.

Bottle at home in Salisbury, CT - picked up at Trader Joe’s in Manhattan, most likely. Pours crystal clear, yellow-gold, quite effervescent with a frothy white head. The aroma has some tangy cereal and biscuity pale malts. Light sweet flavor, somewhat metallic, with bitter and dirty hay, crispy cereal. Light bodied with average to lively carbonation. Fair bitter hay to finish, mild metallic tang, dry cereal, hints of biscuits. All in all a pretty fine pils.

Poured a finger of head on a clear, straw colored body. The aroma is grainy with honey and flowers. The taste is okay. A mild sweet with a drying bitterness middle to end. The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation. It’s unbalanced but more than drinkable.

Tastes like a watered down pale ale, smells nice but all down hill from there.
