COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Prost means "cheers" in German- a gesture of friendship and an enjoyment of the moment. Our Maibock style lager is brewed just like the celebratory beer traditionally served at the May festivals: rich and malty, with slightly spicy notes from the Hallertau and Tettnang hops. ALC 7.3% BY VOL and 26 bitterness units.

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Firestone pint glass From: Trader Joe’s in Mission Valley (San Diego), Calif. Price: $1.00 Purchased: April 3, 2015 Consumed: April 9, 2015 Misc.: Best consumed before July 18, 2015 at 1:33 p.m. Poured a caramel, auburn, clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of khaki-white, frothy head, which dissipated almost immediately. Lots of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. No lacing on the sides of the glass. Poor retention. (Sight - 3.25) Smelled red apple, plum, caramel, roasty nuts, honey and faint menthol. (Smell - 3.63) Tasted kind of close to the smell, maybe slightly better. Got caramel, toffee, honey, roasty malts, nuts, metallic notes, plum, dark apple and sugary molasses. (Taste - 3.63) Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Abrupt, nutty finish. Doesn’t taste anywhere near the 7.3 pct. ABV. (Feel - 3.75) This was an OK beer and, really for the price, a good deal. I’d probably get a sixer of this for the value. (Overall - 3.75) 3.65 83 B

From 12oz bottle, Trader Joe’s, about $6-7 for 6-pack, poured into tulip glass

Aroma: strong malt aroma, light toast, subtle spicy hops

Appearance: amber color, crystal clear liquid, white head

Taste: Very rich, heavy sweet, very light bitter spicy hops

Palate: medium body, average carbonation, smooth, finish is somewhat harsh

Overall: Not a bad bock, but the finish throws it off for me. It finishes somewhat astringent or harsh. The rich malty sweetness is great and the body is great. It’s just the lingering finish which is somewhat strange and spoils the rest of the enjoyment of this malty beer.

I’ve got to hand it to Trader Joe’s for having a fairly extensive line up of german style brews available at such affordable prices - sure, the quality is inconsistent, but it’s nice to have some decent beer available so cheaply - anyway, this one pour a clear light amber - spare lace - nose of moderately rich maltiness, some brined cherries - flavor isn’t terribly complex, but it is clean, medium sweet, some cherry and doughy malts, with light balancing acidity and bitterness - well-masked alcohol - it won’t be winning any awards, but it’s a decent rendition for a solid price.

PorterPounder (6042) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAR 17, 2015
Tallahassee, Fl - Trader Joe’s - 12 oz bottle. Dark orange, medium amber pour, quickly fading off-white head. Brown sugar aroma, a light touch of date sweetness. Flavor is decent with some light raisiny sweetness, some light bubble gum, a light touch of chocolate. Thick enough mouthfeel. Decent, but plain and pedestrian.

Aurelius (4603) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAR 14, 2015
Malty aroma, which at first reminds me of pickled olives and straw malt. The pickled olive thing evaporates after a couple of minutes. Clear bronze. Clean, but boring label on a 12oz longneck. Toast, a sassy tannic acidity, light astringency and a general unpleasant woody bitterness undertone. Warming. Medium body. Trader Joe’s, Tallahassee.
