COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In technical, brewmaster terminology, this is one groovy beer. Crisp, easy drinking, and refreshing. As groovy as a big wave ... without the salt. 25 bitterness units

June 8th, 2012 - Trader Joe’s Kolsch must have taken on a new label when I wasn’t looking, because I definitely do not remember the groovy Californian coastal decor wrapped around the bottle. But what I do remember is a good, clean beer that’s part of a family of brews that I’m not too keen on. The head is extraordinarily foaming with lots of lacing, almost rivaling the famous Belgian Golden Ales in their foam’s structural integrity. The body is a light gold, not pale or wan, with a chilly haze. The flavor is slightly bitter on the front and calms down alongside the raucous carbonation. A German Marzen style malty sweetness appears in the aftertaste, with a little burnt honey and roasted peanuts. Gordon Biersch aced the palate - it is neither too thick or thin, and there’s no unpleasant chemical or cashew flavors involved. While it isn’t engaging, it is a brew I’d be proud to show up to a summer party with in hand.

Best by 07NOV12 Pours a golden yellow with a slight orange hue; topped with dissipating white foam and has excellent clarity. Nice floral and straw nose here with a good dose of grass and corn. Nice slight bitterness up front with some grain and corn with a sweetness about it - a little dry. Light bodied with moderate carb and wet finish. Average beer I’d share with people. Straw gold with a slight haze, bright white head with decent retention and lace. Birght flowery and grassy hop aromas, maybe a touch of lemon. Pretty solid malt backbone supports citrusy and yeasty flavors. Light body, lively carbonation, surprisingly creamy mouthfeel and a crisp finish.

Bready yeast aroma, with notes of hay. Nice golden color with pillowy white head that lasts. Light sweetness followed by slightly medium bitterness. Notes of bread, and barely there sweet malt, finishes with a mild bitterness. Light body with a thin texture....fairly plain beer but works for $1 a bottle.

From tap. Pours a golden color with small head. Aroma was mixed up spice, bread and grass. Taste follows with a mixture of bread and herbs. A little dysfunctional.

Pours a straw/gold with little head. Smells nice, kind of flowery and bright with some grainy scent, and tastes bready with bitter herbs. Not really a great example of a kölsch, but the colder it gets, the better it tastes, and the best of my sixer was after a long drive in a hot car.

Pours a clear bright gold. Quite bubbly. Not terrible, but not very good either. A bit malty. A bit of coriander maybe? OK when real cold. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @ bnielsen13 picked up at Trader Joe’s KC. Pours a clear golden appearance with a white head. A bit buttery, straw, grainy aroma. A bit tangy, grainy, grassy flavor. Light flavor.
