Commercial Description:
JosephsBrau Brewing Company’s Winterfest is a rich, dark bock, inspired by the beers Bavarian monks brewed to lift their spirits during the long fasts of Lint. Dark roasted Munich and caramel malts worked wonders for hungry monks. Our Winterfest is sure to do the same for you. 7.5% alcohol by volume, 28 bitterness units.

Formerly known as Trader Joe's Winterfest.

Mediocre try at a high ABV complex ale. Pours a watery brown with a large, foamy brown head. Smells of rich malt, caramel. Taste is sweet caramel, yeast, and a bit of drying bitterness. Too much sweetness though, cloying. I’m not too fond of this one.

Bottled on 10/31/06. The beer pours to a rich maple colored body with a creamy khaki head. The beer leaves a decent lacing at first but the head dissipates rather quickly. The aroma is gingerbread and caramel, lager yeasts, bright floral hops. The flavor has lots of roasted Munich malt, bitter floral hops, bitter coffee grounds.

Pours a brownish mahogany color w/ a medium sized, semi creamy froth. Aromas of gingerbread, nice. Full nectar w/ mellow residual effers creating a creamy texture. A nicely roasted brew w/ a moderate sweetness. Complex flavors of steak, cocoa, roasted coffee bean, aged citrus rind, and a little leather. Finish is long w/ a delicate bittering. Overall: sweet, meaty, malts and a roasted character.

Poured medium dark infused with some red, off-white bubbles, sweet malt, bread, and caramel fragrances, malt and touch of brown sugar on the tongue, nice.

12oz bottle pours dark brown with a short offwhite head that didn’t stay long and laced only a little.. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, and light roast. Flavor is chocolate, caramel, roast, and some dark fruit. Palate is somewhat oily but seemed to lack body. Good warmth at the finish from the alcohol. Not a bad doppel especially at the price...

A full and thick head sustains itself over this dark red beer. Very rich -- a hearty caramel malt with a slight alcohol kick. Much better than I’d anticipated, as snooty as that sounds!

Aroma of roasted, chocolate, and caramel malts. Some transparency in the reddish brown pour. Small tan head. Pretty decent flavor of roast and dark fruit. Evident alcohol and sweetness. Good doppelbock with a surprising amount of roast. Only complaint I has was the lingering astringent aftertaste. But very cheap!

12oz bottle- An aroma of dark roasted malt on a dark amber body with a small off white head. Taste of malt with a very very faint sourness followed by a darker roasted flavor. Not bad but a little watery and faint in taste.
