Commercial Description:
JosephsBrau Brewing Company’s Winterfest is a rich, dark bock, inspired by the beers Bavarian monks brewed to lift their spirits during the long fasts of Lint. Dark roasted Munich and caramel malts worked wonders for hungry monks. Our Winterfest is sure to do the same for you. 7.5% alcohol by volume, 28 bitterness units.

Formerly known as Trader Joe's Winterfest.

Fairly fresh, 12 oz bottle (February 2006): clear, dark mahogany, minimal head. Nutty, malt aroma with subtle hints of chocolate truffles and bubble gum. Fruity plums finish the aroma and start the flavours, which quickly turn slightly bitter. Darkly roasted, oaky palate with quite a bit of sweetness and stickiness. Robust, caramel and honeycomb flavour along with sharp red grapes and a fresh bitterness. Pretty darn tasty.

Pours an amber color with thin off white head. Aroma is of caramel, spices, and a hint of fruit. Flavor is of spices and malts. Pretty decent brew for the price.

From a twelve ounce bottle purchased at "Trader Joe’s" - This one pours a very dark brown liquid with a fine-bubbled lasting head of tan foam and a malty aroma. Tsdtewise, this one has sweet, marzen-like beginning and a roasty finish, with some beguiling floral overtones. A fine bock beer.

Thanks to Sickboy for this one... Pours out a deep brown color with a small head. Aroma is toasted malts and maybe some brown sugar. Taste is not as burnt as some of this style, but has some interesting flavors throughout the drink. Finishes somewhat smoky. A solid brew.

Bottle courtesy of Gondor. Brown/mahogany when held to light. Off-white head dissapears rather quickly. Aroam is all over, lots of sweet carmel, roasted grain, toasted malt, maybe even mollasses. Sweet caramel malt in the initaial flavor is taken over by the roasted/burnt grain, little harsh for my taste. Tad thin on the palate. Just a little off from being a fine doppel.

Clear dark brown/red color light head. Toasty, malty bock taste with a hint of BBQ. Light taste for a bock but tasty nonetheless.

Sweet vanilla almost oaky aroma. Hint of spicy alcohol. Sweet dark and thick, a touch metallic. Pretty tasty.

Bottle: Pours a dark maroon with a billowing white head that lasts. Small chocolate and caramel notes in the aroma with some grassy scents. Taste is Chocolate, caramel, toffee, malts, lightly hoppy, prunes, and rather sugary. Rather watery and abrupt palate is not exciting at all. Decent Doppelbock but when there are gems like Celebrator and Salvator that I can get regularly this is an afterthought. Try it once with the 94 cent singles at Trader Joe’s that would be your best bet.
