Commercial Description:
JosephsBrau Brewing Company’s Winterfest is a rich, dark bock, inspired by the beers Bavarian monks brewed to lift their spirits during the long fasts of Lint. Dark roasted Munich and caramel malts worked wonders for hungry monks. Our Winterfest is sure to do the same for you. 7.5% alcohol by volume, 28 bitterness units.

Formerly known as Trader Joe's Winterfest.

Didn’t expect much other than a decent, inexpensive winter beer from Trader Joe’s. But damn, this beer is flavorful and mouth coating. Very malty, with more than a hint of port wine.

This beer had a slightly yeasty aroma coming off a very modest head. The dark amber lager is crisp and subtly sweet. It seems to have potential, but doesn’t quite live up to it. It’s not a bad beer, but not particularly good either.

Pours a dark amber with small off white head. Aroma has some carael sweetness. Thaste has some roasted character. A slight bitterness on the finish. Not a bad beer just not a good dopplebock

Bottled. Very dark borwn with a small ran head. Nice sweet aroma of caramel and alcohol. Flavour has a touch of port wine to it and more sweet malt. Good doppel but finishes a little flat with a strange, long-lasting aftertaste.

Pours a dark copper amber with a one finger tan head. The aroma is sweet, caramel, malty, banana, some diacetyl. The flavor is malty, sick sweet malt, man not too tasty, lightly toasted, a tad bit of alcohol. Bad vibes.

From bottle this beer poured a dark brown with tan foam. Aroma of toasted grain and sweet malt. The taste comes at you with a bit of maple and caramel followed strongly by a bittering wateriness, that coats the mouth and lingers far too long. I wouldn’t buy this one again. There are better flavors out there.

Bottle from Trader joe’s. Hearty nut brown color with a foamy brown head. Dark doppelbock smell. From the first sip, I pick strong dark malts, immediately balanced by noble hop alphas. A bit syrupy and stick. Some doffee flavor, and a bit of phenol and diacetyl to throw it off center. Otherwise, a decent winter beer. But not the one you’d want to be stuck with throughout Lent.

Aroma has a gain like scent, it reminds me of a field after a rain. Color is a deep dark amber with good carbonation and a thick tight head. Taste is rich and roasted. Starting with a full body that goes down smooth. Finish comes on with sweet caramel like malt flavors and a little bit of a wine like feel, then a nice bitterness. In the after taste the alcohol shows its self. This is a very good Winter Brew and one of the best Doppelbocks I can remember having.
