argo0 (6842), Washington DC, USA Dec 3, 2005 (12oz bottle) Clear copper body with small beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, light metallic. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, some roast, chocolate, faint metallic. Medium body. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jun 26, 2006 Clear orange/copper pour. Light off-white ring. Vegetal DMS flavours accentuates the total lack of fruitiness in the aroma. Low breadiness, mostly grainy malts that feel a bit dulled down through heavy filtration. In mouth, the simplistic malt profile allows for mellow earthy hops to show through, but so does it uplift the huskiness and absence of nutty flavours. Barely toasty. Light-medium bodied. Just has a rather processed global feel. hopdog (5525), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 21, 2007 12oz bottles acquired in multiple trades. Poured a medium and clear mahogany color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of nuts, toffee, toasted malts, and some dark fruits. Tastes of caramel, citrus, and toasted malts. hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Dec 5, 2005 Bottle... A&K’s4thAHBT... Clear, copper lager with a small, fizzy, khaki head. Nose consists of dark fruit, chocolate and honey. The flavor is sweet and malty with notes of chocolate, hazelnut and vanilla. Full-bodied and oily with fizzy carbonation. Finishes chocolatey, slightly minty and a hint dry. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Mar 16, 2007 Pours a transparent dark amber mahogany with a thin-lacing, frothy off-white head. Aroma of sweet dark toasty Munich malt has some bready notes and a hint of corn (DMS). Starts fairly full-bodied and caramely sweet with a pretty authentic German lager yeast strain and a toasty sweet dark caramel malty finish. A pretty good doppelbock. MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 3, 2006 Any first impressions?
-A veil of head hangs onto the bright terracotta.
-The portentous pils malt vegetal character is overdone in the aroma.
-Fruity caramel and earthy pils malt friendliness conjure up pleasant moments.
-The prickly carbonation is rather quiet within the maltiness.
What if you dig deeper?
-Watery passages disappoint.
-Grassy hops appear in the last half, accompanied by hay.
-Alcohol is a no show.
-A decent doppelbock, but never near the top tiers.
Bottle; no date. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Jan 1, 2006 Nice pour, a creamy tan, heavy lacing head topping a deep chestnut body. The aroma is a lightly roasted caramel malt with molasses. Unfortunately, this fades somewhat is the slightly thin body, the flavor being mainly the sweet caramel touched by hints of juicy fruits. Not a bad drink.
