JosephsBrau Brewing Company’s Winterfest is a rich, dark bock, inspired by the beers Bavarian monks brewed to lift their spirits during the long fasts of Lint. Dark roasted Munich and caramel malts worked wonders for hungry monks. Our Winterfest is sure to do the same for you. 7.5% alcohol by volume, 28 bitterness units.

Formerly known as Trader Joe’s Winterfest.

Uncomplex but rich dopplebock taste that is well worth the low price. Has some of the characteristics of barleywine but not as strong of alcohol. I do recommend it if you like the rich winterbrews and if you are not looking for a strong hops flavor on this particular drinking experience.

It poured a brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of toffee, nuts, caramel, alcohol and some roasted malts. The taste was of burnt malts, toffee and light chocolate.

This one is labeled Winterbrew, but is still a doppelbock. Nice roast grain flavor with a touch of coffee bitterness. Nut brown with creamy beige head. Aroma of burnt toast, nuts, dark bread. Not too bad

Pours deep amber into a Sam glass. Mocha head with medium retention recedes leaving spotted sheets. Sour malt aromas. Crisp with sour caramel, bitter nutty earth and burnt toast.

I admit that I don’t care much for this style, so from the first sweet sugary sip I winced trying to get this down. Fortunately, my wife was in need of some beer for a recipe so it didn’t go to waste. If drinking simple syrup is your thing you might like this as this stuff lacks any complexity or depth of flavor.

Bottle->SA. Bright medium brown. A: cheap wet grains and malt, some nuts. T: bittersweet caramel malt, nuts, earth. Taste is vastly better than aroma, but still not particularly good.

12 oz. bottle. It pours a dark amber red color with an off white head. The aroma is syrupy and fruity. The flavor is pretty much the same. Dark fruit and syrup with some herbal bitterness. Pretty decent, but a tad harsh on the palate. Good for the price.

Solid beer, but isn't more than an average Doppelbock. It seems to be a tad over hopped, and more roasty than malty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours dark brown reddish amber with a foamy yellow-beige-white head that leaves scattered lacing and hangs around awhile. Aroma is toasty malts and bread. Taste is earthy roast malt, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate and bread with noticable bitter on the back and in the aftertaste. Good balance of sweet and bitter. This beer shocked me - I was not expecting such an excellent doppelbock (I am a big fan of the style). ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice, warming doppel with lots of pitted fruit and raisins. Pours a medium-light caramel with a tall, thick head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
