Commercial Description:
JosephsBrau Brewing Company’s Winterfest is a rich, dark bock, inspired by the beers Bavarian monks brewed to lift their spirits during the long fasts of Lint. Dark roasted Munich and caramel malts worked wonders for hungry monks. Our Winterfest is sure to do the same for you. 7.5% alcohol by volume, 28 bitterness units.

Formerly known as Trader Joe's Winterfest.

Pours a dark amber/ruby color. Aroma is quite sweet and malty. Flavor is rich and roasty. Some coffee or chocolate seems to be present in the flavor. Slightly bitter finish with a trace of alcohol. Good beer for $4.99 a sixer.

Clear, dark ruby--almost maroon--body with a fluffy, tan head. Sweet, caramelly aroma with cocoa, grains, some molasses and a hint of honey and raisins. The body is relatively full, but not thick or oppresively full. The flavor starts sweet, continues it’s sweet character at the top and finishes sweet, with a light alcoholic twinge. All told, it’s pretty sweet, with caramel, overripe fruit and a light cocoa element. Not overly interesting or complex, but tasty and enjoyable, especially at $5.99 a six-pack.

Phenomenol looking august maroon with a frothy light crystal malt caramel tinged head. Malt intermingles in the nose with some dank German hops, but the malts do not completely unwind. Alcohol is well-masked, malting is again wound tightly so complexity never really develops, and there is a slight malt off-taste. Overall, decent malt flavor, with some sharp bitterish malt notes. A solid winter lager.

Appearance is dark brown with ruby high-lights, aroma is roasted malty sweet with hints of coffee and cocoa. Flavor is moderate sweet malty with caramel & cocoa, some coffee notes, not much spiciness, perhaps lacking in some bitter. We can find more points to critique here, but overall this brew was better than I expected and a pleasant surprise.

12oz bottles acquired in multiple trades. Poured a medium and clear mahogany color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of nuts, toffee, toasted malts, and some dark fruits. Tastes of caramel, citrus, and toasted malts.

There were only 3 six packs left at trader joes today, I bought one, and will go back to buy the others tomorrow(If they’re still there!) A sweet enough beer, but hopped well too, A mahogany color, and nice easy drinking flavor. Alcohol doesn’t dominate, but its there. A good beer at a damn good price!

Bottled. Pours a dark amber color. Clear with very little head. Prunes and malt in the nose. Very roasted flavor of dark fruits with some sugar and a little alcohol. Tons of smoke.

Mom got this for me for Thanksgiving. Very nice of her. 12 oz bottle. Pours Mahogany with minimal head. Malty sweet with maple syrup hints in the aroma. The flavor is not my particular cup of tea but I noted malt, sassafras, maple and nougat. Sticky medium body. Drinkable but not really for me.
