wilderthanyou (409), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Jun 25, 2007 Pours a yellow/amber colour, with a short lived head that fades away into chunky fizzy lacing. A very weak caramel aroma. A standard and boring malt base with some half baked hops. I guess this would be an ok session beer, but I think i’d prefer there pilsner. It seems all of brickmans beers suffer from a poor palat, with way to much carbonation, and a watery mouthfeel. Might buy this again, for camping, but won’t be my first choice. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Jun 25, 2007 Updated: May 1, 2008got a free 6 pack from a rep and was eager to taste this one......but when i did there was nothing.....i looked at my glass and it looked like it was full of a nice amber beer.....i smelled......nothing.....i took a sip......nothing......very dissapointed.....gave the other 5 away JesseM (660), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jun 22, 2007 Updated: Jun 21, 2008This is definitely an interesting brew. Pours a semi-hazy orange/copper/amber colour. Not much of an aroma to speak of, but it seems slightly metalic. Taste is actually a little complex, very sweet. I honestly got a little lost in the 4 different types of malts used here, but ultimately they combine to produce a creamy caramel taste that more or less defines this beer. There is a mild bitterness in the aftertaste, but the caramel and sweetness of the malts is what stands out. Worth a try if you liked anything else in the Founder’s Series. EDIT: The new canned version is a far, far cry from the mediocre beer this once was. Absolutely NOTHING going on flavour wise, and the head disappeared after several seconds. It looks terrble. Seems like Brick Brewery really has gone over to the dark side. chainman (103), Ontario, Canada Jun 21, 2007 The last of the "Founder’s Series" left for me to rate. This series has been a success for Brick, quality-wise...let’s hope it’s profitable. A nice malty premium lager...a bit sweet, I was expecting sweeter actually, but that’s just fine. AS it warms, the "craft" taste comes to the forefront, and the beer begins to shine - other reviews have it right, this is much like the Creemore I remember! Carbonation could be softer, that’s my only issue with this beer. Nice that we have a solid microbrew lager like this to turn to, but too bad it has to be dressed up like it’s something special when a brewery does their duty and makes something decent without cutting corners. Would definitely recommend it. LordBeamish (144), Boozetown, Ontario, Canada Apr 12, 2007 bottle: What more can I say? KingofCastle has slammed his review over the Green Monster. A damn nice beer. Beautiful amber colouring accompanied by a sweet and hoppy aroma. Great malty flavour are rounded out beautifully by the hops. Good call on replacing the bastardized Creemore King. Give this one a try! KingofCastle (202), London, Ontario, Canada Apr 11, 2007 bottle: Just read pootzboy on this one, he has said it all & recommended this one to me. Thanks to Lord Beamish for the 2 free bottles! Want a replacement for your Molson-destroyed Creemore? If you like sweet malts like me, get all over this. Nice hop balance. Mouthfeel & body is medium, finish is mild but not weak. Great product for a lager, will be enjoyed by ale drinkers like me. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Dec 19, 2006 Good head retention. Amber coloured. Non-descript aroma. Thin malt. Vague vanilla notes. Whatever. Skidds (252), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Nov 12, 2006 Doing samples one day at LCBO, I walked one with a 6pack of this and the Pilsner. My relationship with most Canadian beers is stormy at best but this one really turned that around. Very good amber lager. Similar to Creemore.
