muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Dec 9, 2006 Draught pint at the brewpub accompanied by my brother, mid-October 2006. Served with an orange slice, uh-oh! Still, hazy golden colored, virtually no head and no lacing....lightly yeasty aroma with vague touches of orange and peach doesn’t ever really open up though it becomes sweeter and more artificial-seeming with warmth....sourish fruits disintigrate in the watery haze of a body, swirls of soured buttermilk do not add anything good....alchol prominent, carbonation far too low given the syrupy qualities of the fruiiness....as it warms, some real harsh, strong spicy ginger and orangepeel show up. Really close to a disaster; I would never have pegged this as a dubbel either, it’s not remotely close to the style as I know it. Couldn’t get through more than a third of the pint.
Skyview (2901), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Jul 30, 2008 On draught at the brewpub in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear reddish and golden amber brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates clean. Aroma of sweet golden and caramel grains, candi sugar, some yeast, lemon and orange zest with a touch of cantaloupe. Taste is semi-sweet, full bodied, with flavors of candied caramel malt, candi sugar, yeast and a touch of orange zest. Finish is semi-sweet with some tropical fruit and multi-grain malt aftertaste flavors. Alcohol is a tad high but a nice sipping dubbel. JPDIPSO (4267), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Apr 12, 2008 Lightly hazed golden color with a smallish white head. LIght fruit and mild candi aromas. I’m catching flavors of watermelon rind and light alcohol. Hints of pale malt and candi. Very mild spice. The light fruit and especially the watermelon throw things off for me. General_Gao (2568), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Mar 21, 2008 Draft at the brewpub. Poured a clear light brown reddish color. Head was thin and off white. A bit of lace was left behind at the end. Brown sugary aroma and flavor. Earthy spices, subdued orange, fennel, bran muffin, and alcohol flavors also emerged. Not bad. gws57 (995), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Feb 5, 2008 Had this one on draught at the brewpub in Madison, Wisconsin. Hazy dark yellow pour with a thin white head, light orange and lemon nose, mild and malty taste, similar to a banana Now-and-Later, complex and a bit spicey. Good! jarlbartar (88), Janesville, Wisconsin, USA Jan 19, 2008 Growler from the bar. Poured a hazy golden brown color with a very small head. Nose of sour fruits. Palate full of sweet and sour fruits - apricot, pear and a little banana. Lots of yeasty flavor in this one, not a whole lot of noticable hop charcter. Aftertaste was somewhat tart and dirty. This one really stands out as one of their better brew, they need to keep this one going all year long!
